BRENTWOOD, Essex, 21 November, 2016 - Ford launches the Ford UK College Community Challenge (Ford C3) which encourages students to address some of the most challenging issues faced by society.

Working with partner Enactus UK, a registered charity that operates in 56 universities, Ford invited student teams to develop projects under the theme 'Building Sustainable Communities'. Teams need to demonstrate innovative thinking and an entrepreneurial approach to improving lives.

Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain managing director, said: 'Educating the next generation of social innovators and leaders is essential to ensure success in our communities. We are delighted to support these creative, enthusiastic and committed young people who really want to make a difference.'

Three winning teams will be presented with a grant of £5,000 each in April 2017 at the Enactus UK National Expo in London; 2016 was the inaugural year for Ford College Community Challenge in the UK. The University of Nottingham, University of Kent and Nottingham Trent University were the overall winners with projects that focused on empowering the elderly, recycling, waste prevention and vertical farming.

The Ford College Community Challenge is one of the global education programs from Ford Fund, Ford Motor Company's non-profit corporate foundation, dedicated to providing access to quality education, leveraging Ford's expertise in smart mobility and automotive safety to help make people's lives better, and inspiring innovators to build sustainable communities. Over the past 9 years, Ford C3 has awarded over $2million to university student teams in nine countries around the world.
