Jaguar used their R3 car to compete during the 2002 Formula One Season. The car was launched on January 4th of 2002, and was the third team to introduce their vehicle. The Jaguar team was led by drivers Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa, both retained from the prior season.
2000 and 2001 were disappointing for Jaguar, and 2002 was even worse. The team's troubles began prior to the start of the season, with mistakes and miscalculations in the wind tunnel. The car had poor reliability and a lack of horsepower. However, it did manage an impressive fourth place at the Australian Grand Prix.
The R3 was powered by a Ford-Cosworth CR3 V10 engine and mated to a Jaguar 7-speed semi-automatic sequential gearbox.
