2000 Jaguar R1 news, pictures, and information

The Jaguar R1 Formula One car was used during the 2000 season and was the first Jaguar-badged car after Ford's purchased of the Stewart team the prior year. Power was from a Ford Cosworth V10 which was mated to a Jaguar 6-speed magnesium-cased semi-automatic gearbox.

Throughout the season, the R1 did not provide the anticipated results, though it did have a few exceptional moments. The car was reportedly hard to drive and it suffered from an unreliable gearbox.

The car was driven by Eddie Irving - the 1999 championship runner-up - Luciano Burti, and Johnny Herbert. Even with experienced drivers, the team was only able to secure 4 points which earned them a 9th in the World's Constructor Championship.

2000 German Grand Prix: Barrichello Assumes Command
When it was all said and done the 2000 German Grand Prix would go down as one of the strangest races in Formula One history. But, in the end, all would be lost in the exuberant celebrations and tears of one of the most-deserving drivers in the paddock. Hoisted onto the shoulders of his defeated peers, Ruben Barrichello had finally assumed command. Heading into the German Grand Prix, Barrichello had been struggling to equal the results of his teammate, Michael Schumacher. Already a double Worl...[Read more...]

1999 European Grand Prix: The First and Last
When Johnny Herbert signed with the brand new Stewart-Ford Racing team many believed Herbert to have missed out on his opportunity at success in Formula One. In fact, many would see a great divide between him and the obvious number one driver Rubens Barrichello. However, on the 26th of September Herbert would show he still had some fight within and would actually be the one to earn a very important first for the team. Herbert's Formula One career would go through something of a renaissance af...[Read more...]
1991 24 Hours of Le Mans: Facing the Giants
It had been more than thirty years but the Silver Arrows would compete, and win, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jaguar would also earn its first victory in more than thirty years when it took the overall honors in 1988. And then there was Porsche, the most dominant mark in Le Mans history. But each of these three manufacturers shared something in common. Even with the victories by Ford during the 1960s there was something very interesting about the list of victors in the 24 French enduro—none of them ...[Read more...]
1989 Brazilian Grand Prix: Dangerous Like a Wounded Animal
Sunday March 26th, 1989 would break with sunny skies. As the day grew later and later the already warm weather only grew hotter and hotter. It was clear the 18th Grande Premio do Brasil would be absolutely torrid as far as the weather was concerned. But in the Benetton pits, one man would not be thinking about the weather as much as the dream that was about to come to fruition with the start of the race at two in the afternoon. Ever since he began to race karts at the age of ten, Johnny Herb...[Read more...]
