April 26, 2017 by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles•Volkswagen Crafter claims top honours in Trade Van Driver awards •New Crafter named Van of the Year and Best Large Panel Van •Transporter awarded Best Medium Van accolade •Second year in a row Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has claimed Van of the Year Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has scooped top honours once again at the Trade Van Driver awards by claiming Van of the Year and Best Large Panel Van for the Volkswagen Crafter and Best Medium Van for the Transporter. Judges were highly impressed by the all-new Crafter, stating 'even before going on sale, the van had been hailed as a winner'. With it being the first of its kind to be 100 per cent Volkswagen and built at a brand new production facility in Poland, judges recognised its 'quantum leap forward over the old Crafter in terms of technology, build quality and safety', ensuring Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' continuing success among trade van buyers. The sixth generation Transporter's 'impeccable handling, functional design and well-thought-out load areas' made it a worthy winner for the judges in the Medium Van category, who also described the residual values of the Transporter as 'the best of any van'. Last year was equally impressive for the Transporter, claiming VansA2Z's 'Van of the Year 2016' and Van Fleet World 'Best New Van' awards. Trade Van Driver Magazine editor, Matthew Eisenegger commented: 'What a fantastic year it's been for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The judges' comments speak for themselves and both the Crafter and Transporter are two worthy winners. The Crafter has been revolutionised in its build quality and is head and shoulders above the rest in its sector of the market. The Transporter's handling, design and well-thought-out load areas make it a deserved winner of the Best Medium Van award.' The awards were presented to Director or Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Carl zu Dohna at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham this week. He commented: 'The accolades continue to keep rolling in and to win Trade Van Driver's Van of the Year for the second successive year with two different models is a fantastic achievement. I'm really proud of our all-new model range and accompanying aftersales initiatives which enable us to offer a great proposition to all customers.'
