1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon Brougham

All-new styling was introduced on the Delta 88 and other GM B-body cars for 1977, receiving updates along the way until another major redesign in 1986. The new 1977 Oldsmobile Delta 88 models now rested on a smaller platform, having shrunk in wheelbase and length, shedding hundreds of pounds, while gaining headroom and modern appearance and improved fuel economy. The park/turn signal lights were now integrated into the bumper, a small spoiler was added to the decklid, the corners were rounder, and the wheel covers were flatter. The front grille was comprised of four sections on each side with narrow vertical bars separated by three vertical dividers. On either side of the grille were quad headlamps and wraparound front side marker lenses. The lights in the back had emblems within the lenses.
The large 403 cubic-inch V8, along with other large engines throughout the industry, did not make it out of the 1970s, victims of new federal fuel-economy mandates. A new 307 cubic-cinch Rocket V8 with a four-barrel carburetor delivered 150 horsepower, with all other engines remaining the same as 1979.

Trim levels included the base, Royale, and Royale Brougham models in two body styles - the two-door coupe or four-door sedan. 3,547 vehicles were fitted with the RPO code Y78 Holiday 88 coupe option that added contour front bucket seats, sport mirrors, custom sport steering wheel, a sports console with shifter, special color-keyed wheel covers, and special emblems.

The diesel engine remained popular, with 49,087 being equipped with this option. The standard engine was a 231 cubic-inch V6 backed by an automatic transmission. Other standard equipment included bumper guards and impact strips, dan/night mirror, steel-belted radial tires, rocker panel and wheel opening moldings, power brakes, and power steering.

The base Cutlass salon Coupe had a factory base price of $5,375 and the sedan of $5,530. Of these two, the sedan was more popular with 36,923 examples built compared to 3,429 of the coup. 965 of the Salon Brougham coupe were built, having a base factory price of $5,660.

The Cutlass Supreme included a coupe and LS Sedan, with the coupe listed at $6,250 and the LS Sedan at $6,350. This time, the coupe was far superior in popularity, with 169,597 examples built compared to the 86,868 of the LS Sedan. The Supreme Brougham coupe was also popular, with 77,875 built at a base price of $6,700. The sedan version, of which 52,462 were built, listed for $6,775.
