2001 CHEVROLET TRACKER: A WHOLE LOT OF TRUCK - FOR THE MONEY

The big news for 2001 is the addition of two models. The ZR2 is a sportier version of Tracker wîth equipment upgrades like standard power windows and mirrors, along wîth wheels, tires and wheel flares that give the ZR2 a rugged stance. The LT adds top-of-the-line features, including chrome exterior accents optional leather seating surfaces.

Powering both the LT and ZR2 is the new-for-2001, 2.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine that generates 155 peak horsepower. Standard on the base Tracker is the lively 127-horsepower, 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine, while the 1.6-liter engine has been discontinued.

On the outside, the Tracker's sculpted flanks and contoured edges are bold and distinctive. And for 2001, Tracker comes in a slew of great colors including a freshly enhanced White and Silver Metallic wîth new clearcoat protection. A new vinyl spare tire cover features an easy to operate zipper, and Tracker's easy-to-open convertible top is the answer to every sun-worshiper's prayers.

For 2001, both two- and four-door Chevy Trackers boast an impressive level of standard features such as improved air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo wîth cassette. The Tracker's generously appointed and spacious interior remains, so there's plenty of room for friends and their gear. And there's storage everywhere, in the instrument panel, the seat backs, door pockets and center console.

The rear compartment of the two-door model comfortably accommodates full-size adults. The rear seats can be folded and stowed away for even more room. An optional rear lockable storage compartment is perfect for locking valuables and can be removed to provide maximum cargo space.

Tracker's confident road manners are the result of a more precise power rack-and-pinion §teering. Its highly responsive rear suspension features a five-link design to provide exceptional road feel and a greater tread width for sure-footed control and cornering. Únlike many of its competitors, the Tracker features a rugged full-length ladder-type frame just as larger Chevrolet sport utilities. The frame offers superior strength to absorb punishment so occupants don't.
