1933 Dymaxion Car

1933 Dymaxion Car 1933 Dymaxion Car 1933 Dymaxion Car Buckminster Fuller, a famous visionary of the 1930s, produced three Dymaxion cars in 1933 and 1934. This is an accurate replica of the first of those three. The three-wheeler is powered by a Ford flathead V-8 and could go 30 miles per hour with up to eleven people on board. Under perfect conditions, the front-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering Dymaxion could reach 90 miles per hour. The egg shape made for exceptional aerodynamics although at high speeds or when driving in substantial crosswind it was not very stable.

After eight years of work on this replica, the Dymaxion went on display at the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, in February of 2015 and debuted at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in Florida a month later. Museum director Jeff Lane drove the car from the museum to the show. The original car was driven on a road trip around Connecticut by famous designer Isamu Noguchi who helped design this futuristic car.

The car was so advanced and unusual in design that it failed to garner enough financial support to make it to production. Two of the three cars were sold: one was destroyed in a crash and the other in a fire. The original remains in storage at the National Automobile Museum (formerly the Harrah Collection in Reno, Nevada.)
