8th Monaco Historic Grand Prix

Company press release.

8th Monaco Historic Grand PrixThis year Monaco will be paying tribute to its glorious past once again, with the 8th Monaco Historic Grand Prix. The 7-race programme, held from 11th to 13th May 2012, organised by the Automobile Club de Monaco, will allow visitors and participants to relive moments of an international motorsport event that began on 14th April 1929.

Drivers from 20 different countries will be participating. The British have a strong presence (87), followed by the Americans (31), then the French (23), Italians (19), and Germans (10). 14 Monegasque drivers will be defending the colours of the Principality throughout the various races.

The fantastic roar of the engines, the smell of castor oil and methanol – these are the signatures of racing machines that have contributed so much to the magic of the Monaco circuit. The ACM selection committee has selected only 226 of the 300 applications presented. Included are former drivers such as Dieter Quester (BMW), Fabien Giroix (DTM), Arturo Merzario (Ferrari, Williams) as well as celebrity drivers such as Tony Smith, manager of rock band Genesis, and Nick Mason, the drummer in Pink Floyd, who will driving racing cars from their own collections.

Chopard, famous Swiss watchmaker and jeweller is partner and the official timekeeper of the event for the sixth consecutive time. Credit Suisse created for the second time the 'Credit Suisse Driver's Club', a place of meeting and exchange between competitors and guests. These two privileged partners support the A.C.M which through 7 races, will make relive the glorious automobile history of the Grand Prix of the XXth century.

The selection committee, by rejecting all cars not complying with original specifications, have gathered together a veritable museum on wheels. No-one passionate about cars will want to miss this international Monaco meet, held just two weeks before the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, on the identical circuit, with the same infrastructure, organisation and trackside support teams.
