The Subaru HM-01 Hybrid Concept is powered by a four-cylinder engine that displaces 658cc and mated to a CVT transmission. The 45 horsepower and 43 foot-pounds of torque produced by the engine are sent to the front wheels, while a 42 volt electric motor powers the rear wheels. While in motion, the momentum of the rear wheels is converted into electric power by a high power 3kW alternator in the rear drive unit and re-charges the batteries.

 | The success of the world's first diesel plug-in hybrid, the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, continues. Volvo Car Group (Volvo Cars) is now ramping up production by 90 per cent, just to keep up with the demand. The increased demand, especially in Holland, Belgium and Italy, means that the Plug-in Hybrid production at Volvo Cars' Torslanda plant in Sweden will be increased continuously from 150 to 282 units per week.
