1999 S-10 PICKUPS APPEAL TO ACTIVE LIFESTYLES New S-10 Xtreme™ Debuts For ‘99
DETROIT -- With a versatile lineup, rugged good looks and a long list of standard features, Chevy's 1999 S-10 Pickup provides compact pickup owners with more of what they're looking for: The ability to go anywhere, in style.
S-10 Pickup is available in a configuration to suit just about any need: Two- or four-wheel drive, Regular or Extended Cab, Short or Long Box, three Vortec engines (1, 4 cylinder/ 2, 6cylinder).
'S-10 Pickup is a reliable compact truck that you can tailor in many different ways,' said Debra Kelly-Ennis, S-10 Pickup brand manager. 'With the segment's best selection of model, trim and suspension choices, S-10 Pickup can be anything the owner wants it to be.'
Refinements for ‘99 include a new flash-to-pass feature content, theft alarm on vehicles with available Remote Keyless Entry, and larger folding exterior mirrors with optional power/heat features for improved rearward visibility.
S-10 Pickup features segment exclusives, such as standard 4-wheel ABS and an available third door. Also available are the ZR2 Wide Stance Sport Performance Package (an off-road chassis package on 4x4 models), the new S-10 Xtreme sport appearance package which includes factory-installed ground effects.
1999 S-10 Xtreme
The 1999 S-10 Xtreme is one of a long list of Chevrolets that started life as a concept vehicle -- a one-of-a-kind creation designed to show off Chevrolet's latest automotive ideas.
'As a concept vehicle, the S-10 ‘Hugger' Pickup met with such fanfare it made it to the showroom floor as the S-10 Xtreme,' said Kelly-Ennis. 'It comes straight from the factory equipped with ride and handling, and styling features many enthusiasts expect.'
The Hugger allowed consumers to visualize ways to customize their own S-10 Pickups. It also influenced another concept -- the S-10 Xtreme Force, which in turn, influenced the design of the S-10 NHRA Pro Stock Truck series dragster.
The ‘99 S-10 Xtreme's unique features include:
270 Ground effects, encompassing the front fascia, wheel-opening flares and rocker panels
Body-color grille and bumpers
Front air *** with integrated foglamps, and front license plate cover
Unique sixteen-inch unique aluminum wheels with P235/55 R16 blackwall tires
ZQ8 suspension system that lowers the vehicle, enhancing its ride and handling and giving it a 'street rod' look.
Tachometer
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
Contemporary Xtreme badging
According to Kelly-Ennis, the S-10 Xtreme is the perfect solution for buyers who intend to further customize their S-10 Pickups.
'It's a blank canvas, a starting point,' said Kelly-Ennis. 'People can take this truck further if they want. The end result is limited only by the imagination.'
Kelly-Ennis noted that the S-10 Xtreme also helps solve a common problem faced by owners who alter their truck's suspension.
'Xtreme is built on S-10 Pickup's ZQ8 suspension, which is two inches lower than our base suspension,' said Kelly-Ennis. 'Before, customers would buy a stock S-10 Pickup and have it lowered. Unfortunately, some have fallen victim to lousy conversions and voided their warranty. The S-10 Xtreme offers a solution. You get a great-looking product, with one sticker and a full factory warranty.'
The Xtreme will be available as 2WD in either base or uplevel trim, with a four- or six-cylinder engine, manual or automatic transmission, in Regular or Extended Cab versions, Fleetside or Sportside.Source - GM Corporation
