A concept supercar which never made it quite to full scale production, the Canadian built MCV (Motion Concept Vehicle) spent several years beginning in 1992 developing the CH4. MCV only intended to produce 350 vehicles.

Following six years of research and design, the Canadian company achieved the ultimate supercar, once worth $225,000. President of Motion Concept Vehicles Inc. in Mississauga, Ontario, Robert J. Waddell was the overseer of this amazing concept vehicle. Active sponsors of the CH4 are Canadian utilities Consumers Gas and Union Gas, fuel injection specialist GFI Control Systems and cylinder-maker Dynetek. According to president Waddell, they will all participate in supplying the aftermarket gas conversion equipment.

When the idea was born, the vehicle was originally designed to run on natural gas, the CH4 prototype actually ran on methane (chemical abbreviation CH4), but was later changed by MCV so natural gas power would be an option. A conventional petrol engine would come as standard later.

The MCV chassis is made from carbon fibre composite that offered greater stiffness and strength than a steel chassis, though at a fraction of the weight. The 1998 prototype featured an engine twin supercharged 4.6 liter V8, while the transmission was 5-speed manual RWD. A CH4 prototype, the engine is a General Motors 4.6-liter, multi-valve V8 that is converted to run on natural gas. Still to be determined is the marker of the gasoline engine that will power the first production models.

The MCV CH4 was estimated to reach 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Horsepower was 400 bhp at 6300 rpm. The prototype weighted 1065 kg, or 2350 lbs. Approximately, the weight-to-power ratio is 5;1, the 2,300- to 2,400-pound vehicle that will be run by a 400- to 450- horsepower engine.

The MCV CH4 is not designed for a specific racing car circuit standard like Formula 1, but in the interest of craftsmanship the MCV is taking a professional race car approach by designing its own chassis and car body. The chassis must be remarkably strong as in modern racing the chassis takes all of the load inputs.
