2003 Chevrolet Tracker news, pictures, and information

2003 CHEVROLET TRACKER OFFERS AN ADVENTUROUS SMALL SUV WITH CHEVY TRUCK TOUGHNESS AND DURABILITY

For 2003 the Chevrolet Tracker offers three great small SÚV choices that are big on capability. The base Tracker, along wîth the rugged ZR2 and LT, give Tracker a lineup of models that offer Chevy Truck toughness and durability.

'Tracker gives its owners the ability to handle just about any task, from the morning commute to an off-road adventure,' said Margaret Brooks, Tracker marketing director. 'It is a durable truck that can handle an active lifestyle.'

A strong foundation

Like all Chevy trucks, Tracker starts wîth a solid foundation. The steel ladder-type frame on which Tracker is built gives this Chevy Truck excellent on-road performance and the ability to go just about anywhere. Its frame and high ground clearance give Tracker many off-road advantages over the competition. Most of its competitors feature a unibody construction more common in passenger cars. Tracker also has achieved impressive crash test ratings.

Tracker's confident road manners are the result of precise power rack-and-pinion §teering. Its highly responsive rear suspension features a five-link design to provide exceptional road feel and a greater tread width for sure-footed control and cornering. And an antiflex bar which arches across the Tracker engine compartment helps strengthen its body structure.

'This is an authentic sport utility that can handle the roughest terrain,' said Brooks. 'Combining the full-ladder frame wîth Tracker's 4x4 shift-on-the-fly, four-wheel-drive system gives Tracker the ability to handle the unexpected, on or off the road. Tracker is a tough, durable, dependable Chevy Truck.'

Packed wîth value

Available in two-door convertible or four-door hardtop versions, and in two- or four-wheel-drive configurations, the Chevrolet Tracker is a whole lot of truck. Tracker gives consumers utility, performance, capability, value and style, all at a reasonable price.

Base-level Tracker models come wîth AM/FM/CD radio as standard equipment, plus air conditioning, power rack-and-pinion §teering, a folding rear seat and a shift-on-the-fly transfer case on 4x4 models.

Tracker LT models come standard wîth a powerful V6 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, power locks and doors and more.

The Tracker ZR2 - available in a two-door convertible or four-door model - also comes standard wîth a V6 engine (four-door only), 8 inches of ground clearance, skid plates and a 4x4 transfer case that offers shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive at speeds up to 60 mph.

Powering both the LT and ZR2 (four door) is the 2.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine that generates 165 peak horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, while offering good fuel efficiency. Standard on the base Tracker and on the ZR2 two door is the lively, yet economical 127-horsepower, 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine. It offers a cruising range of more than 400 miles on a single tank of gas. Both engines give Tracker the essential power desired by small sport-utility buyers.

Impressive, inside and out

The Tracker's spacious interior allows plenty of room for friends - and their gear. The rear compartment of the two-door model comfortably accommodates full-size adults. And the rear seats can be folded and stowed for even more room - up to 44.7 cubic feet of storage space on four-door models. Getting to that gear is easy wîth a hydraulic-assist, swing-out tailgate that opens to the side. There are additional storage compartments in the seat backs, door pockets and center console.

On the outside, the Tracker has bold and distinctive sculpted flanks and contoured edges. The ZR2 appearance package gives Tracker a tough-lòòking attitude, while the LT appearance package offers an upscale look. Other available features include tubular side steps, brush guard and fog lamps, ski and bike racks and, for convertible models, a removable hardtop.

The compact SUV Geo Tracker was produced from 1990 through 2004. In Canada it was sold by GMC while in the United States it was sold by Chevrolet. It was sold by Pontiac as the Sunrunner until 1997. The Tracker was basically a rebadged Suzuki Escudo.

The 4WD, 2-door, convertible version was seen by many buyers as a less-expensive alternative to the Jeep Wrangler. By 1997 a four-door, four-wheel drive hardtop version was introduced.

Power was supplied from a 1.6-liter SOHC engine, later changed to a 2-liter engine in 2003. A manual gearbox was standard while the automatic was standard. A two-wheel drive version became available in 1991.

In 2004 production ceased for the Chevrolet Tracker. It was replaced with the Equinox.
