Pinehurst Concours Foundation to Benefit Four Local CharitiesVILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (March 4, 2014) – The Pinehurst Concours Foundation has been formed to benefit four charities in Moore County, including children with disabilities, a character development youth golf program, health care and the military, said Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance executive director Jay Howard.

The 501c non-profit Pinehurst Concours Foundation will assist the Sandhills Children's Center, First Tee of the Sandhills, Foundation of FirstHealth and Patriot Foundation with donations from the 2014 Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance vintage car showcase to be staged May 2-4 at Pinehurst Resort.

'We are blessed to host such a unique auto competition at an iconic location, and to be able to reach out and connect with an area that displays such wonderful community spirit,' Howard said. 'It gives all of us associated with the Pinehurst Concours an opportunity to pause and reflect about those who may not be as fortunate or are struggling to secure some much-needed services. We are driven to help.'

Those wishing to purchase tickets online (www.pinehurstconcours.com) for the Sunday, May 4 judged competition of 119 classic automobiles can check a box to donate to the Pinehurst Concours Foundation. There will also be additional charity initiatives leading up to the 2014 competition.

At last year's inaugural event, an original 36-by-48 oil painting by renowned artist Bill Patterson, drawn live on base at Fort Bragg as part of the Pinehurst Concours Iron Mike Rally, was auctioned with the funds donated to the Patriot Foundation.

'This is a powerful convergence of a world class car showcase, the most famous golf destination resort in this country, and our charity that helps families of paratroopers and special operations soldiers, our country's most elite, and the finest ever to serve our nation,' said Patriot Foundation spokesman Chuck Deleot. 'We believe it is the responsibility of all our citizens to help the families of our fallen and injured soldiers. The Pinehurst Concours clearly understands this, and can make a substantial impact on many shattered military families.'

'It is always an honor to be recognized by organizations within the community that are raising money and supporting us, but it's ironic to be associated with the Pinehurst Concours because one of our biggest needs for patients that we serve is transportation,' said Carie Driver, the Director of Development for the Foundation of FirstHealth. 'We distribute $100,000-$150,000 a year to our Cancer Care Fund, and about 80 percent of those dollars are used for transportation, to get patients back and forth to treatments.'

'The Pinehurst Concours is a premier event for the Sandhills and it's so wonderful it is investing in our community,' added Teresa Copper of the Sandhills Children's Center. 'We will benefit by having a broader expansion of people knowing about our mission, which helps us with volunteers and financially to provide therapy for children.'

'We are thrilled to be chosen as one of the charities supported by such an outstanding event,' said Lisa Chandler, executive director of the First Tee of the Sandhills. 'Our character education and golf curriculum is now reaching 20,000 young people in five counties in the Sandhills. Through the generosity of the Concours and other supporters there are many more children that will be reached.'
