West Palm Beach, February 9, 2001 - The first racing version of Warren Mosler's new MT900 mid-engine sports coupe has been sold to an executive of a Sacramento (CA) based Internet company.
The buyer is veteran boat and road racer Scott Deware of Boston, vice president of motorsports marketing for Sacramento's Jilbrit Wheels, Inc. A five-time APBA national champion in outboard tunnel boats, Deware has competed in NASCAR's Busch Grand National Series and in GT, GT0 and AGT classes of the Grand American road racing series.
His new car wore No. 02 in last week's Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. Fastest qualifier in the GT class, it went out in the fifth hour after a collision damaged the lighting system.
Deware shared driving duties at Daytona wîth John Heinricy of Holly, MI, and Joao Barbosa of Portugal.
Next outing for the car will be a 250-mile race during NASCAR's Winston Cup weekend March 3 at the Homestead Miami Speedway in Florida. Deware said he is thrilled to own the first MT900 racer. 'I've raced just about everything that floats or rolls,' he §äid. 'I got about an hour in this car at Daytona. But it only took me to the first turn of my first lap to realize this is one heck of a thoroughbred.'
Tommy Morrison of Albana, GA, director of operations for the MT900 project, said the Deware team will receive full factory support through the 2001 Grand Am season. Morrison, whose Mobil 1 Corvettes dominated production-based endurance racing in the '80s and '90s, will serve as team manager.
Mosler, the West Palm Beach entrepreneur who built the racer (officially the MT900R) to accelerate development of a street-legal version he's in the process of certifying, said nine more race cars will be built this year. Announcements regarding those cars are pending.
Jilbrit Wheels Inc. a designer and manager of Internet systems for automotive retailers, is Deware's major sponsor. The company will use its racing presence to acquaint automotive retailers nationwide wîth its state-of-the-art Internet sales and service concepts, according to Jilbrit chairman, Robert Beasley.Source - Mosler Automotive
