FBS Cars of Brackley, Northants, has added a ready-packaged track car to its 170 PS Census V6 model line up. Offering an optimum 50/50 weight distribution for balanced handling, and 220 Nm of brute torque, the £29,000 Census R is aimed at serious motorsport enthusiasts.
“Through testing at Mallory, Donnington, Bruntingthorpe and Avon Park, we have confirmed that this combination of chassis balance and engine torque lets the Census R accelerate early out of corners whilst its clean aerodynamics give it the edge along the straight over lighter, but less aerodynamic competitors.” says FBS Cars’ managing director and chartered engineer Andrew Barber.
Adding that, “Best of all, because of the progressive manner in which the Census R communicates and responds, the driver now has more time to focus on his or her racecraft”.
The R comes straight from the showroom with a ride height lowered by 2 inches at the front and 1 inch at the rear to minimise drag and body roll. Soft compound 45 series profile Avon ACB10-Sport tyres on wider rims are fitted, whilst inside is additional bracing for the roll-over hoop, a minimalist level of trim, fire extinguisher, competition seat and a road-legal racing safety harness. A range of additional engine and chassis modifications is also available.
Now in its fifth year of trading, FBS has been delivering cars to customers since June 2002, and is working towards a medium term production target of 50 plus vehicles per year. The Census design team’s chassis and powertrain experience includes work undertaken for Lotus, Aston Martin, Prodrive and BMW-Rover.
