2003 Peugeot Hoggar Concept news, pictures, and information

The Hoggar is far from being your normal concept car, being in the image of the extraordinary, wild and spectacular desert in southern Algeria which it is named after.
The Hoggar has free-flowing lines, a sober interior and hi-tech fittings, and offers a spectacular level of power and efficiency.

With its twin HDi engine wîth particle filters, offering 360 hp, this concept car is particularly environmentally friendly, as well as having advanced suspension and road holding that is optimised for extreme obstacle-crossing capacity.

With visible mechanical components that look like the drawing of powerful musculature, the Hoggar combines a compact volume wîth low-slung proportions, accentuating the impression it gives of a wild animal ready to leap.

Resembling an imposing 2-seater buggy, the Peugeot Hoggar looks avant-garde and unreal at first sight. Vast open spaces spring to mind, easily accessible to judge from the car's robustness and latent power. Getting there would be an even more pleasing and relaxing prospect in the knowledge that this concept car relies on unique and proven HDi engineering solutions, enhanced by original technology, such as the adoption of two power trains and appropriate wheels and suspension.

In elevation, the Hoggar has no overhang, thereby offering a highly compact volume wîth condensed proportions. The front wing rises over the tyre and falls back gently, before rising again abruptly at the rear wheel. This creates a general profile that is both elegant and dynamic and which, combined wîth the rear projection, expresses the strength and robustness of a crouching animal ready to pounce.

The Hoggar is a sports car for extreme conditions, wîth two seats and two up to the minute power trains deployed transversally, one at the front, the other at the rear, giving it the attributes of a 4-wheel drive vehicle. At the front of the carbon structure, as at the rear, there is a tubular sub-frame designed to support each power train. Attached to the carbon shell at six points at the front and four at the rear, these tubular frames also accommodate all suspension fittings, including the double wishbones. Both radiators are set well back at windscreen level to reduce the length of the front overhang. While the radiators are common to both engines, the one on the right features a low temperature loop to cool the intake air. Air from outside is captured at the front of the vehicle and is supplied to the radiators through a conduit incorporated in the bonnet lining.

Each ML 6C gearbox is driven by electrically-controlled hydraulic actuators. The sequential gear change operates by means of control plates under the §teering wheel or a lever on the central console. A fully automatic mode is also available. The Hoggar can of course be driven wîth only one of its two power trains. The suspension of this concept car features double wishbones at the front and rear. Each axle is equipped wîth an anti-roll bar.

On board this ultra high-tech open-air vehicle, natural leather and aluminium feature strongly. Two people can sit in the one-piece, cast light-alloy seats, which have leather upholstery. Each occupant is secured by a safety belt, a true four-point harness connected to four small inertia reels. The fascia panel features two central rev counters, the left-hand one for the front engine and the right-hand one for the rear engine.

Clean Sweep Of Bahrain Grand Prix Podium For Renault Engines
Renault-engined drivers locked out the podium in today's Bahrain Grand Prix, with Infiniti Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel taking a commanding win over Lotus F1 Team's Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean. It is the second year in a row that the Renault RS27 V8 engine has made a clean sweep of the Bahrain podium, and the first time since that race that an engine manufacturer has monopolized the top three. The result is the 154th win for a Renault engine in F1 and the 36th for the Red Bull Racin...[Read more...]
2013 CHINESE GRAND PRIX: FOURTH PLACE FOR SEB, DISAPPOINTMENT FOR MARK
Sebastian Vettel claimed a battling fourth place in Shanghai in a tactical battle that saw the champion use a different strategy to those cars ahead of him on the Chinese Grand Prix grid. Seb began the race in ninth place, on the medium tire and hoping to maximize its durability against the soft tires of the seven rivals at the front of the grid. The champion was competitive throughout but was eventually passed for P1 by Fernando Alonso on a fresh set of medium tires that would see the Ferrar...[Read more...]
ALWAYS KEEP PUSHING
Watching pitstops on TV or from the back of the garage gives you an overview of an ensemble in action. When stops go smoothly - and they went very smoothly in Malaysia - the choreography is a beautiful thing to behold: as intricate as a beautifully made watch and just as well put together. To see that, however, you have to be watching from a distance. Crouched over a wheel-gun or a tire the field of vision is somewhat narrower, coalesced into that instant of activity that gets the car moving ...[Read more...]
Alonso pleased with Mugello testing: 'I am confident'
Scarperia, 3 May – A further 500 kilometres for the F2012, which reached the 250 lap threshold, equivalent to over 1300 kilometres during the course of the past three days at the Mugello Circuit. After rain on Tuesday came the second difficulty of the test, in the form of an off-track excursion for Fernando Alonso around mid morning. He went off at Turn 12, doing some damage to the front left corner of the car and the front wing, but more significantly, the incident cost two and a half ho...[Read more...]
INDYCAR – LONG BEACH GRAND PRIX
A tough weekend for the Lotus-engined teams in California. Having been sidelined for much of practice and qualifying due to bad weather and a water pump issue, Lotus HVM's Simona di Silvestro suffered an engine failure 11 laps from the end of the 85 lap race, demoting her to 20th. Lotus Team Barracuda BHA's Alex Tagliani, who qualified tenth, struggled during the race and was also hit by EJ Viso, forcing him to pit for a new front wing. Ultimately, he retired and registered 21st place. Lotus Dra...[Read more...]
