1969 Chevrolet Biscayne

Chevrolet's full-size models for 1969 included the entry-level Biscayne, mid-level Bel Air, the well-appointed Impala, and the top-trim Caprice. All full-size 1969 Chevys received styling updates and continued to use a wheelbase that measured 119-inches. In the front was an integrated bumper and grille surrounded by chrome, with a grid-patterned insert with cross-hatched moldings forming large, square openings. The Biscayne had twin lamps while other full-size models had triple lamps. The rear wheel housings flared out, and the vertical, rectangular side markers were located at the forward edge of the front fenders.

The Biscayne had been part of the Chevrolet lineup since 1958 and would continue through 1975. It was named after a General Motors Motorama car displayed during 1955 and served as the least expensive model in the full-size Chevy range. During most of its existence, it was devoid of the fancy interior and exterior trimmings of its full-size siblings, but at a more affordable price. Many Biscayne models were used for the fleet market, for buyers seeking utilitarian transportation with the power and room of a full-size automobile. Most Biscayne's were equipped with six-cylinder engines through the late 1960s, but by the early 1970s, the V8 powerplant became the more popular alternative. Body styles often included a two- or four-door sedan, although a four-door station wagon was offered between 1962 and 1968. The two-door sedan was dropped from the lineup after 1969, and from 1970 to 1972, the Biscayne was offered solely as a four-door sedan.

The fourth major restyling was applied to the 1965 Biscayne and would continue through 1970. The 1969 Chevrolet Biscayne could be purchased with either a six- or eight-cylinder engine. The base unit was a 250 CID inline overhead-valve six-cylinder that offered 155 horsepower and 235 lbs-ft of torque. It came standard with a three-speed fully synchronized manual transmission or an automatic (Powerglide or Turbo Hydra-Matic). Bodystyles included a 2- and 4-door sedan with seating for six individuals, and a 6-passenger station wagon. The Biscayne came with a head restrain and other mandatory safety equipment. They had a door-actuated light switch, a heater and defroster, a locking glove box, armrests, carpeting, and a cigarette lighter. The station wagons had dual-speed electric wipers and washers, Hide-A-Way windshield wipers, dual-action tailgate, an ashtray light, and Astro Ventilation.

The two-door sedan with six-cylinder power listed for $2,645 while the eight-cylinder version was priced at $2,750. The six-cylinder sedan listed for $2,690 and the station wagon at $3,065. The eight-cylinder options were approximately $100 higher.

Over 68,700 examples of the Chevy Biscayne were sold in the United States in 1969 with over 41,300 being fitted with V8 engines.
