The Mercedes-Benz 450SLC fixed head coupe was introduced in 1972. It shared the same basic (R107) platform as its convertible sibling. The four-seater came equipped with an independent suspension, disc brakes and power steering. Power was from a 4520cc eight-cylinder engine with a cast-iron black and aluminum heads. It had Bosch fuel injection, an 8.0:1 compression ratio, and produced nearly 200 horsepower. An automatic transmission was the predominate setup. For 1974, the 450 Series - including the 450SE sedan, 450SEL sedan, and the 450SLC Coupe - had few changes over the prior year. The 450SE rested on a 112.8 inch wheelbase while the 450SEL had a 116.5-inch platform. The 450SLC had a short 111 inch wheelbase. Standard equipment now included leather upholstery on the 450SEL sedan and 450SLC coupe. The 450SE had a vinyl interior. A tachometer, quartz clock, air conditioning, cruise control, central locking, power windows, AM/FM stereo radio with automatic antenna, radial tires, height-adjustable front seats, and halogen fog lamps were installed in all 450-series. The 450SE had a base price of $15,820 and the longer 450SEL sold for $17,400. The 450SLC was the most expensive vehicle in the lineup, selling for $19,500.
