1955 Ford F-100 news, pictures, and information
1955 commemorated the production of the 20 millionth V-8 engine. The battle between Ford and Chevrolet was especially fierce this year with Ford claiming the second spot in record sales. Later in 1955 Ford announced its first public stock sale in over 30 years. Ford became a public company again for the first time since 1919.
1955 did not produce many changes in Ford's truck lines. The spare tire was no longer mounted on the left side just in front of the rear fender, the top of the hood was widened, the headlights were pushed out to the fenders, and the vertical grill was changed to a horizontal grill pattern. The company still grabbed more than 30 percent of the American truck market.
