1980 Porsche 924

Porsche AG of Germany produced the 924 luxury sports car from 1976 through 1988. It was a two-door, 2+2 coupe that replaced the 914 as the company's entry-level model, and was the model that finally retired the 912. The 924 was the first Porsche model to be powered by a water-cooled, front-mounted engine although the similarly configured 928 was designed first. The 924 was also the first Porsche to be offered with a fully automatic transmission.

For 1980, the Porsche 924 had a base price of $16,770 and was available with either a normally aspirated or turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The turbocharged engine was a new option for 1980 and it had an identical displacement as the normally aspirated version. The base engine offered 110 (SAE) horsepower while the turbocharger boosted power to 143 (SAE) horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission was standard in both versions, and a three-speed automatic was available for an additional cost.

Turbocharged models rode on special alloy wheels and were given spoilers in both the front and the rear.
