GRAND AM GT COUPE RETURNS FOR '05With a run of GT coupes only for '05 retail sales, the Grand Am will be phased out of Pontiac's lineup in 2005. Production of Grand Am sedan models for fleet customers will continue.
All 2005 Grand Am models come with air-conditioning, tilt steering wheel, programmable door locks with lockout protection, battery rundown protection, an electric remote trunk release, an oil life monitor, the PASSLock II theft deterrent and a sealed-for-life transmission.
SC/T Special Edition
Sending the '05 Grand Am GT out with style is an SC/T Special Edition model on the GT1 solid value model. The package includes:
• Performance composite hood
• Rear aero wing
• Chrome Tech wheels
• XM Satellite Radio
• Leather-appointed seating with 'SC/T' embroidered on seat backs
• SC/T emblem on deck lid
• Custom chrome-tipped exhaust system.
All GT models come standard with a Monsoon speaker system for awesome sound and speed-rated blackwall P225/50R16 tires and aluminum wheels for maximum grip. GT1 models additionally sport a sunroof and steering wheel-mounted audio controls as standard equipment.
The available XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only) provides more than 120 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original commercial-free music and premier news, sports and talk as well as advanced traffic and weather information for select major metropolitan areas nationwide. Consumers can subscribe to the basic service for $9.99 (U.S.) a month. In addition, GM customers with GMAC financing can choose to include the XM subscription in their car payments.
The Grand Am GT and GT1 models are offered with the 175-horsepower (130 kw) Ram Air version of the 3400 V-6. It also produces 205 lb.-ft. of torque (278 Nm) and is mated to the Hydra-Matic 4T45-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission.
The Grand Am GT has a four-wheel independent suspension. Aluminum suspension knuckles reduce unsprung weight for responsive ride and handling. Torque-axis powertrain mounting uses two mounts to support the mass of the engine and transaxle and two others specifically tuned to resist torque and reduce vibrations while idling. Mounting Grand Am's power rack-and-pinion steering system directly to the hydroformed chassis cradle provides precise on-center feel with excellent isolation of road disturbances.
Safety story
With sophisticated engine management and computer programming, Grand Am's ABS and Enhanced Traction System (standard on GT and GT1) help provide solid stops, traction and control under the most challenging conditions. The ABS system can help the driver maintain control under situations that could normally send a vehicle out of control.
Safety belts remain the primary and most effective form of occupant protection. Retractors for front outboard seating positions have built-in load limiters that allow a controlled amount of give in the belt, thereby reducing the peak load on the chest during the 'ride down' in a crash.
Grand Am GT also is equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) System anchors for child safety seats. This system provides two lower anchors and a top tether anchor to be used to secure a child seat to the vehicle seat structure. These anchorages are designed to make it easier to properly install compatible child safety seats.Source - GM Corporation
