2005 SUNFIRE OFFERS AFFORDABLE SPORT-COMPACT PERFORMANCEThe 2005 Pontiac Sunfire is the affordable choice for sport-compact enthusiast seeking a sporty, aerodynamic design with a high level of standard equipment, power and torque. It's the right combination at the right price for youth-oriented customers.
New for '05 are four contemporary colors, including Sedona Beige Metallic, Steel Blue Metallic, Sport Red Metallic and Liquid Silver Metallic. Also available in six exterior colors is the new Sport Appearance Package for 1SB and 1SC models, which includes:
• 16-inch Chrome Tech wheels with bright chrome finish
• 205/55R16 performance blackwall tires
• Sport suspension
• Sport interior package, with leather-wrapped steering wheel, parking brake handle and shift knob; driver lumbar with manual adjust; and passenger seatback pocket
• Dual exhaust outlets with chrome tips
• Body-color door handles
• Custom sill plates
• Available in Black, Summit White, Fusion Orange Metallic, Liquid Silver Metallic, Victory Red and Electric Blue Metallic.
Additionally, bodyside sport graphics are available with the Sport Appearance Package. The silver-tinted graphics complement Sunfire's sleek design and accent its sculpted line, running from the fenders, through the doors and over the broad shoulders of the rear fenders. Inset foglamps and a split-grille further accentuate the coupe's sporty looks and highlight Pontiac's heritage of excitement and performance.
Sunfire power
The proven Ecotec 2.2L I-4 engine is standard on all Sunfire models. Quiet operation is one of the engine's chief attributes, accomplished by using twin balance shafts located in the cylinder block. Other features that help make the DOHC engine smooth and quiet include a die-cast lower crankcase and a structural cast-aluminum oil pan, which stiffen the block and reduce radiated engine noise. The engine also features an isolated cam cover that reduces the transmittal of valvetrain noise.
The Ecotec I-4 generates 140 horsepower (104 kw) and 150 lb.-ft. of torque (203 Nm), and at 305 pounds (138 kg) fully dressed, it is the lightest and most compact engine GM has produced in its class. When mated to the Getrag five-speed manual transmission, it delivers approximately 33 mpg on the highway. A Hydra-Matic 4T45-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic is available. The Enhanced Traction System, packaged with the four-speed automatic transmission in the top-of-the-line Sunfire, aids with safety and performance. The system also is available in the mid-level group when ABS is ordered with the automatic transmission.
Sunfire audio
Few things are more important to younger buyers than a vehicle's sound system – and Sunfire delivers a wealth of audio packages to suit the budget conscious as well as the audiophile. Returning for ‘05 as part of the Sun and Sound Package is the CD/MP3 player with equalizer and Radio Data System. Playing a CD with MP3 format files can provide hours of customized music on just one CD.
Top-level audio quality is available with the 200-watt, eight-speaker Monsoon Premium Package audio system, which has been tailored specifically to Sunfire's acoustical environment. With eight speakers placed optimally to maximize sound, Monsoon delivers top-level audio quality. The eight-channel amplified system with active crossovers directs low, midrange and high frequencies to the appropriate speakers. The optional Monsoon sound system is ideal for those who place a premium on high-quality sound output.
Sunfire also offers XM Satellite Radio as an option on 1SB and 1SC models equipped with the Sun and Sound and Security packages. XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only) provides more than 120 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original, commercial-free music and premier news, sports and talk as well as advanced traffic and weather information for select major metropolitan areas nationwide. Consumers can subscribe to the basic service for $9.99 a month. In addition, GM customers with GMAC financing can choose to include the XM subscription in their car payments.
Sunfire safety
Safety belts remain the primary and most effective form of occupant protection. All seating positions in 2005 models have three-point safety belts. Front inboard belts are mounted to the seats so the buckle moves with the seat during adjustments. Retractors for front outboard seating positions have built-in load limiters that allow a controlled amount of give in the belt, thereby reducing the peak load on the chest during the 'ride down' in a crash.
In addition to standard front driver and passenger air bags, Sunfire offers optional seat-mounted side-impact air bags for front-seat passengers. The available Protection Package features side-impact air bags and the OnStar with one-year Safe & Sound Service Plan, available as an option on the Sunfire.
OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the United States and Canada. Using the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Personal Calling that allows drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls using a powerful three-watt analog system and external antenna for greater reception.
Sunfire value
To build on Sunfire's value story, Pontiac announced the Special Value Package (1SV) for the '04 model year. It continues in 2005 and delivers one low price for price-sensitive consumers. With a model price of just $11,460 (includes destination and freight charge), consumers may enjoy the many standard features on Sunfire plus an AM/FM stereo with CD player.Source - GM Corporation
