For the first time since 1977, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, launched two new 911 models at the same time: the 911 Carrera with a 325 bhp, 3.6 liter boxer engine, and the 911 Carrera S, powered by a newly developed 3.8 liter engine, which delivers 355 bhp. With torque of 295 lb-ft, the S model surges from zero to sixty mph in 4.7 seconds. The Carrera does this in exactly five seconds. Top speeds for the Carrera and Carrera S are 177 mph and 182 mph respectively. The two 911 models from the 997 series will be launched across Europe on 17 July 2004 (with the exception of the right-hand drive market in Great Britain).

Both 911 models have a newly developed six-speed gearbox and a reworked chassis, which includes active suspension as standard in the S model. For the 911 Carrera, this chassis, called 'Porsche Active Suspension Management', can be supplied on request. In the 'normal' position, PASM provides a sporty and comfortable balance to the suspension; pressing the 'sport' button, however, makes the suspension firmer which enables the car to be driven in a particularly agile and sporty way. In addition to PASM, a further option for both models is sports suspension, which is lower by 20 mm, with a mechanical rear inter-wheel differential lock.

The format of the wheels and tires has also evolved: the 911 Carrera now has, as standard, 18J x 18 size wheels with 235/40 ZR 18 tires (front) and 10J x 18 with 265/40 ZR 18 tires at the rear. The Carrera S is equipped with 19 inch rim/tires, size 8J x 19, with 235/35 ZR 19 (front axle) and 11J x 19 with 295/30 ZR 19 (rear axle).

The design of the Porsche 911 is a logical continuation of the 911 story, now over 40 years old. The result of the new exterior design – including a wider track and more emphasis on the waist – is a 911 which is even more dynamic, clear, powerful and, at the same time, elegant.

Other striking features of the evolutionary design are the new circular headlamps with separate additional headlamps in the nose area, more prominent fenders, dual-arm exterior mirrors, altered seam characteristics and a more aerodynamic rear spoiler.

The basis price for the 911 Carrera is $69,300 and $79,100 for the 911 Carrera S.

Porsche today announced in May of 2004 it is extending its 911 range to include the 911 Turbo S. The new model is available as both a Coupe and a Cabriolet with sales starting in August 2004. The Turbo S is based on the 2004 911 Turbo and joined the all-new 911 Carrera and Carrera S in the 2005 model year line-up.

The 2005 911 Turbo S, with power from the 3.6 twin-turbocharged horizontally opposed flat-six cylinder engine, produces 444 bhp and 457 lb-ft of torque between 3500 and 4500 rpm, up from 415 bhp and 415 lb-ft in the 911 Turbo. The Turbo S has a maximum track-speed of 190 mph and accelerates from a standing start to 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 13.6 seconds, 0.8 seconds quicker than the 911 Turbo.

Standard equipment on the 911 Turbo S includes further developed Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB®). The internally ventilated ceramic discs have a diameter of 13.78 inches, both front and back. The front brakes use six-piston monobloc fixed callipers rather than the four-piston version used on the 911 Turbo. Ceramic composite brake discs provide a 50-percent weight savings compared to conventional metal discs. This reduces unsprung weight, enhances shock absorber response and vehicle handling.

In addition to the Turbo S logo on the rear lid and on door mouldings and centre console, the Turbo S is identified by its 18-inch wheels painted in 'GT silver metallic' with colored Porsche crests. Other standard features include cruise control, a six CD changer

system and a green-tinted band at the top of the windscreen. Also for this new model, special dark olive metallic paint is a no-cost option.

Inside, the Turbo S features aluminium gauge faces and a Turbo S logo on the tachometer. Optional special leather is available on the seats, steering wheel, shift lever and hand brake lever.

Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 911 Turbo S Coupe is $131,400. The 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is $141,200.

Porsche today announced it will launch the latest versions of the 911 Cabriolet, traditionally the most popular 911 model sold in America, in the first quarter of 2005. Based on the 911 Carrera and Carrera S Coupes released earlier this year, the 2005 911 Carrera Cabriolet and Carrera S Cabriolet feature a wider range of standard equipment and offer higher levels of performance and safety than any previous standard open-top 911 model.
For open-air driving pleasure and convenience, both new 911 Cabriolet models are equipped with an electronic soft top that opens or closes in just 20 seconds and can be deployed or retracted with the car moving at up to 30 mph (50 km/h). To protect its heated glass window, the top retracts in a Z-configuration with its outer side facing up. To protect occupants from the rain, the top's new sills above the doors guide water into a specially developed door seal duct in the A-pillar.

By incorporating such features as Porsche Stability Management (PSM), Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including the Porsche Sound Package Plus (CD radio with nine speakers), larger wheels, and a wind deflector, as standard equipment which were previously options, the new 911 Carrera Cabriolet represents greater value than its predecessor.

Exclusive to the new 911 Cabriolets is the greater extension of the rear spoiler. To minimize front and rear axle lift at high speeds resulting in greater driving safety, the speed-dependent rear spoiler extends 0.8 of an inch (20mm) further than the spoiler on the new 911 Coupes. At the same time, the drag coefficient on the new Cabriolets has been lowered to 0.29, making them leaders in their class for aerodynamic efficiency.

The 911 Carrera S Cabriolet is powered by the same 3.8-liter, 355 horsepower (SAE), flat-six cylinder engine as the new 911 Carrera S Coupe. It propels the car from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.9 seconds. For optimum handling, the Carrera S Cabriolet incorporates the same Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system fitted on the Carrera S Coupe as standard equipment (the system is an option on the Carrera Cabriolet). PASM allows the driver to select between the comfort of a Grand Touring car and the track-ready precision of a genuine high performance sports car at the touch of a button. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet is equipped with the new Carrera Coupe's 3.6-liter, 325 horsepower (SAE) flat-six engine that powers the car from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a quick 5.2 seconds. Both models achieve the same top track speed – 177 mph (285 km/h) for the Carrera Cabriolet and 182 mph (293 km/h) for the Carrera S Cabriolet – as their 911 Carrera Coupe counterparts despite a greater weight of more than 180 lbs. (85 kg.).

For optimum occupant safety, both new Carrera Cabriolets are equipped with the Porsche Side Impact Protection (POSIP) system comprising head and thorax airbags for both driver and front seat passenger. Also standard are two full-size frontal airbags and three-point seat belt latch tensioners and belt force limiters for the front seats. Rollover safety features include two ultra-strong steel tubes in the A pillars and two supplemental safety bars located behind the rear seats that automatically deploy in the event of a rollover.

The 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet and Carrera S Cabriolet will be introduced to the United States and Canada in mid March of 2005 at a price of $79,100 US and $115,650 CDN for the Carrera Cabriolet and $88,900 US and $129,900 CDN for the Carrera S Cabriolet. Both models will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga., and its subsidiary, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd., are the exclusive a further importers of Porsche 911, Boxster and Carrera GT sports cars and Cayenne sport utility vehicles for the United States and Canada. A wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche AG, PCNA employs approximately 250 people who provide Porsche vehicles, parts, service, marketing and training for its 203 U.S. and Canadian dealers. They, in turn, provide Porsche owners with best-in-class service.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S builds on the awe-inspiring attributes of the 911 Turbo, and takes the driving experience to a new, higher level. The Turbo S, which is available both as a Coupe and Convertible, is based on the current 996 generation 911 Turbo and will join the broadest ever range of 911 models when it goes on sale in August.

Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe

The evocative twin-turbocharged, 3.6-litre flat six engine has been tuned in the Turbo S model to develop more power and torque for even greater performance – and Porsche engineers have achieved this while ensuring fuel consumption and emissions barely differ from the standard Turbo model.

The vital statistics of the Turbo S are impressive. Power is raised by 30bhp to 450bhp, and pulling power leaps to 620Nm from 560Nm. This increase in engine responsiveness manifests itself particularly during in-gear acceleration – which is stunning. The engine delivers these remarkable figures courtesy of larger turbochargers, modified intercoolers and revised engine management electronics. Additionally, the six speed manual transmission has been strengthened to handle the torque increase.

The brakes of the 911 Turbo S have also been uprated similarly. Fitted as standard are the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) system, offering a 50% weight reduction per wheel over the conventional steel brake disc equivalent, as well as superior fade resistance characteristics under heavy braking.

Standard equipment on the Turbo S includes metallic paint (including a special colour – Dark Olive metallic), Xenon headlights, a BOSE audio system and the Porsche Communication Management System (PCM) incorporating audio, telephone and satellite navigation functionality. Additionally, the Turbo S offers 18' alloy wheels painted in GT Silver metallic, plus full leather interior trim, aluminium-coloured instrument dials, cruise control and a CD autochanger.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe is priced at £99,300.00 (inc VAT).

Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet

Taking the performance potential of the Turbo S Coupe and adding the versatility of an electric folding roof, the Turbo S Cabriolet is the ultimate expression of open-top 911 motoring. Roof operation is electro-hydraulic and allows the driver to open or close the roof fully automatically in just 20 seconds at the touch of a button. And to allow even greater flexibility, the driver can choose to lower or close the roof either at a standstill, or at speeds of up to 31mph (50km/h). Like all Porsche 911 Cabriolet models, the Turbo S also comes as standard with a removable aluminium hardtop - weighing only 33kg - for year-round convenience.

The Turbo S Cabriolet shares the same 450bhp engine as the Coupe, and has a six-speed manual gearbox. However, both the Coupe and Convertible Turbo S models can be ordered with the Porsche Tiptronic S five-speed automatic transmission.
