1969 Chevrolet Nova

When the Chevy Nova made its debut in 1961 as part of the Chevy II lineup, it was an entry-level compact for economy-minded car buyers. In 1968, the Nova was completely redesigned and now based on the Camaro platform, which ironically, had been based on the previous Chevy II foundation.

The 1969 Nova was available as either a sedan or coupe. In the front of the upper grille bar was a Chevrolet emblem and the Nova script was located on the right-hand corner of the deck lid. The front side marker lights grew in size and were repositioned a little closer to the corner of the body. The base engine was a four-cylinder, overhead-valve unit with a 153.3 cubic-inch displacement and offering 90 horsepower. The overhead-valve six-cylinder unit displaced 230 cubic inches and had 140 horsepower. A 307 CID V8 brought horsepower to 200 hp.

Standard equipment included head restraints, defroster, heater, armrests, and concealed fuel filler.

The Super Sport option allowed Chevrolet customers to create a muscle-car statutes vehicle in almost any model range. The Super Sport badge could be attached to the full-sized Impala, the midsized Chevelle, the Camaro pony car, and for those on a budget, the economy-oriented Nova. The Super Sport form was a two-door fastback coupe with clean styling and attractive proportions. When equipped with the new L78 396 CID big-block V8 engine, horsepower was rated at 375 hp. When equipped with the L78, the Nova received heavy-duty suspension components and power front disc brakes.
