1976 Chevrolet Nova

The 1976 Chevrolet models were similar to their 1975 siblings, except for the Chevette becoming part of the lineup. For the Nova, it was the top-of-the-line in the compact family. A few styling changes appeared, including a new six-row cross-hatch grille which was split in half by a horizontal bar. Flanked on either side were round headlamps. Vertical amber parking lamp lenses were at the grille ends on the base Novas.

The Nova Concours models had several visual differences, including their grille which had 24 square holds in two rows, with each square having 3x3 crosshatching. They had extra chrome trim around the headlamps and hood areas. Special 'NC' insignia, wheel cover insignia, and a three-dimensional hood ornament could be found on the vehicle. Other features included bumper guards and impact strips, plus dark-accented full-length bodyside louvers and rocker panel moldings.

Rosewood-grain vinyl accents could be found on the dash of the Concours models, and on the steering wheel and upper door panels.

The base engine was an inline 250 CID six; a 305 CID V8 replaced the former 262 CID as the base V8 engine.

Power brakes, which were formerly optional, now became standard equipment on the Novas with V8 power. Disc pads and rear lining material were new, along with larger-diameter rear cylinders. Another mechanical change was to the air conditioning system which had a new seven-mode setting and a maximum cooling position.

Bodystyles on both the base and the Concours models included a coupe, hatchback, and a sedan. Pricing began at $3,250 for the 2-door coupe and rose to nearly $4,000 for the Concours Hatchback. Nearly 335,000 examples were built in 1976.
