The HRG was named after its designer, Halston Robinson Godfrey, who designed it after leaving the Frazer-Nash Company when their factory closed. The car was intended to be a 'gentleman racer,' which could also be used for sporting and social outings. The car cost twice the amount of the MGs and one and a half times the cost of Aston-Martins of the time, and regularly prevailed over both marques in trials and races in the 30s and 40s.

Of the 260 HRG cars built between 1937 and 1954, only 100 were built in this configuration. This car is ex-Ben Rose Collection, and lived in the garage where the film 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' was filmed. It was campaigned vigorously in vintage and historic races in the Midwest from 1970 to 1995. It is basically in its original unrestored condition, with a few cosmetic repairs and safety upgrades which are period correct.

HRG (HRG Engineering Company Ltd) was manufactured in Tolworth, Surrey, and founded by E.A. Halford, Guy Robins and Henry Ronald Godfrey in 1936. It took its name from the first letter of their surnames. The cars were intended to continue the traditions of Frazer Nash, H.R. Godfrey, along with the Archibald Frazer Nash, having founded and run the GN Cyclecar Company from 1910 to 1922. In 1938 an HRG was the highest placed British car at LeMans and in both 1939 & 1949 won the 1.5-Liter class. A HRG cost 395 pounds sterling (about half the cost of the 1.5-liter Aston martin) and weighed almost 1000 pounds less. Car production ended in 1956 after 241 cars had been made.
