These vehicles were built in Columbus, Ohio, from 1907-1915. It was originally offered as a high-wheeled automobile in 1910, the year of this car; it was under the able design skills of Lee Frayer of Frayer-Miller fame.
Eddie Rickenbacher started his racing career with Firestone-Columbus, driving the light, stripped down versions with great success. Richenbacher and Lee Frayer incorporated many mechanical innovations, and over the next two years were able to include many of these into the running production. Both small and large cars were offered in the medium to high priced range. Some of these innovations included: dropped center frame to lower the car's center of gravity; semi and full floating rear axle; rear axle stabilizers, a sort of shock absorber mounted on the rear axle tube; dual powered electric, kerosene side and tail lamps; and high quality prestolite, acetylene powered head lamps.
This particular car is one of only six or seven remaining Firestone-Columbus automobiles and the only known Roadster.
