1971 Ford GT40 news, pictures, and information

Coupe
Chassis Num: 1086

The legendary production racing coupe, Ford GT40, achieved total dominance of the sports car racing scene, and four consecutive LeMans victories in the 60s. It remains the object of desire for countless enthusiasts today. This rare GT40 has the distinction of being bestowed with the last serial number in the sequence of the GT40 production run. Delivered new to John Willment (Surrey, England), who with business partner John Wyer, formed J.W. Automotive (GT40 Racing Division), through Ford in the mid to late 60s. Mr. Willment kept the last production run chassis for himself and had it finished to the specifications of the Gulf GT40 #1075, the most historical GT40 of all time, the two-time LeMans winner. Finished in Racing Gulf Livery Blue, with Marigold (Orange) trim.

Remarkable, this GT40 has never been restored, and is considered one of the lowest mileage GT40s today. Awards over the years have included winning 1st place in the most popular car vote at SAC-10 (1985), and being invited to the 25th GT40 reunion at Watkins Glen (1989). It has also appeared on the cover of Shelby American, as well as being featured in numerous books and publications. With the GT40's racing heritage, being blindingly fast, and with its limited production run, GT40/1086 and all other GT40s are regarded as being highly collectable.
Rodeo Drive Concours Celebrated Great Britain And Aston Martin
In celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the coming London Olympics, Rodeo Drive became decidedly British this past Sunday for the annual Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance on Father's Day with 'THE BRITISH ARE COMING!' theme. Aston Martin was this year's featured marque and Gearys Beverly Hills was the presenting sponsor in celebration of their new Rolex store opening on Rodeo Drive. Thousands of guests were joined by comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who stopped by Rodeo Drive for the annual e...[Read more...]
Triple-Podium For Aston Martin At the Nurburgring 24 Hours
During a weekend in which the ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24 Hours proved that it's still every bit as challenging as ever, Aston Martin has successfully conducted a valuable testing exercise for its new-for-2012 V12 Vantage GT3 racing car, whilst its engineering department and customer race teams racked up three podium finishes across two classes. In partnership with its motorsport arm, Aston Martin Racing, and long-standing partner team, Young Driver AMR, Aston Martin entered a pair of V12 Van...[Read more...]
Formula One - Spanish Grand Prix
Kimi Raikkonen bagged his second podium on the trot in Barcelona, charging hard to finish third behind first time grand prix winner Pastor Maldonado and, by just half a second, Fernando Alonso. The Finn was disappointed not to finish on the top step, though, claiming that the Lotus E20 had the potential to have won every race this year so far. Nevertheless, he is now fourth in the Drivers' Championship, just 12 points behind leaders Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Starting on the sec...[Read more...]
Sizing up the Competition for Le Mans
The FIA World Endurance Championship returns to Europe this weekend for the '6 Hours of Spa' at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. It's an important race for all of the WEC teams, not only as it's an opportunity to score championship points but also it's the last race before the Le Mans 24 Hours. It's a chance to make sure everything is running like clockwork and also to size up the competition. The LMP2 class will be competitive with 16 cars taking the start, nine of which are running with Nissa...[Read more...]
Double podiums for both the Lotus F1 and GP2 teams
FORMULA ONE – BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX '#Wheresmypodium' tweeted the Lotus F1 Team throughout the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. Having come close in each of the opening rounds, the obvious pace of the Lotus E20 and the unquestionable skills of Kimi Raikkonen and young hotshoe Romain Grosjean, it was only a matter of time. Finally, in the Middle East, it came together. It was the first time two Lotus drivers have been on the F1 podium together since Carlos Reutemann and Mario Andretti follow...[Read more...]
