Bryan Bryan Clayton from Tonbridge, UK started racing in 1960 with a car he constructed, and in 1966 he won his first championship in 750 Formula Cars using a vehicle he constructed.
This Vietesse Sports Racer was built by Bryan Clayton from Tonbridge, UK using a modified Royale RP4 body. The Vietesse 5 was ready in the fall of 1972 and it first raced on April 20th of 1973 at Lydden Circuit where it placed third. It raced additional races in 1974-75 with a couple of placings.
The Vitesse 5 was originally built for the 750 Motor Club Formula 1200 races (which later became Formula 1300).
The Vitesse 5 was then sold to Kaj Madsen, Leif Rasmuseun, John Pedersn in Denmark where it continued its racing career.
In 1980, Jan Tromark purchased the car and imported it to Sweden. Ho sold it to Ingemar Wittstrom in 1981 who raced vintage races with the car. Ingemar Wittstrom sold the car to Alan Dunvall and in 1989 Kent Nilsson purchased it. It was raced in Sweden up to mid-1990 and was then put into storage.
The present owner, Robert Andersson, bought the car in 2001 from Kent Nilsson and the car now has its a new home in Maryland, USA. Robert Andersson raced other cars in 1980-1985 in Sweden and at the same events at the Vitesse.
In 2002 Robert Andersson raced the Vitesse 5 in the USA and has continued to race at various other American race track. The history of this vehicle was compiled by Bryan Clayton and the current owner, Robert Andersson.
This car is powered by a Lotus Twin Cam four-cylinder engine that displaces 1300cc and produces 155 horsepower. There is a Hewland Mark 8 five-speed gearbox. The frame is a tubular steel unit with a fiberglass body. Disc brakes can be found in both the front and rear. The total approximate weight of this vehicle is around 1000 pounds.
