1933 Buick Series 50

The 1933 Buick models received a styling update that included new fenders with deeper valances, a 2.5-inch reduction in size, a vee-shaped grille, and the replacement of the wooden wheels with either wire or steel spoke artillery wheels. The Series 50 had a 119-inch wheelbase and was powered by an overhead-valve eight-cylinder engine displacing 230.4 cubic-inches and developing 86 horsepower at 3200 RPM. Bodystyles included a convertible coupe, sport coupe, sedan, victoria coupe, and business coupe.

Mechanical improvements included a Fisher No-Draft ventilation system, and a new X-cross-member frame.

Other 1933 Buick models included the Series 60, Series 80, and Series 90. The Series 60 had a 127-inch wheelbase, the Series 80 a 130-inch, and the Series 90 on a 138-inch platform. Prices on the Series 50 ranged from $1000 to $1,110; the Series 60 ranged from $1,275 to $1,590, the Series 80 from $1,500 to $1,850, and the Series 90 from $1,780 to $2,050. Both the Series 80 and Series 90 were powered by a 344.8 CID overhead-valve eight delivering 104 horsepower. The Series 60 had a 272.6 CID engine with 97 horsepower. All of the 1933 Buick engines used mechanical valve lifters, overhead valves, and five main bearings. All were backed by three-speed sliding gear, synchromesh transmissions with a single dry plate clutch on the Series 50 and 60, while the Series 80 and 90 used a double dry plate clutch.
