History

In 1900, London butcher, John Portwine, backed engineer John Weller in an enterprise to build a four wheeled motorcar. Subsequently they built the very successful Auto Carrier three wheeled delivery vehicle. It's AC logo is known to this day.

In 1919 Weller ban production of a 2 liter overhead cam aluminum six, known as the 'light six'. With various upgrades, the basic design was in production thru 1954.

At the start of the Depression the company was bought by the Hurlock Brothers, who continued to upgrade the design on a limited production basis thru the 1930's. Company records show that 668 vehicles were produced in this time frame in five different body styles, mostly roadsters. 183 vehicles are known to exist, with about 35 vehicles owned by 6 individuals in the US.

This vehicle is an unrestored 15,000 mile example of one of 2 fixed head coupes produced on a hand built basis. Features include an aluminum body with steel fenders, an underslung chassis, Moss gearbox, automatic chassis lubrication via a clutch pedal actuated pump, gravel guards under the fender wells, and built in jacks.

The vehicle was custom built for a Dr. Smith-White of Surry in 1937. The good doctor passed away in 1939 and his widow used it sparingly until the late 1960's, at which time it was sold to a collector in Portland, Oregon with 10,800 miles accumulated. It has been pased thru various West Coast collection since then.

Mechanically, the vehicle is in 'like new' condition.

AC Cars Group Ltd. is a British specialist automobile manufacturer and one of the oldest independent car marques in Britain. The engine is a 2-liter overhead cam 6 with alloy block and head, 3 SU carburetors, and exhaust silencer. It has gravel guards under alloy fenders, special factory option of clutch activated oiler, built in jacks and Dickey seats. This automobile is one of three coupes built in a 600 car production run between 1929 and 1941. This automobile was custom built for Dr. Smith-White in 1937. The automobile was purchased by the McMahon's in 2005 with a current mileage of 16,098 miles. Mechanically it is in 'like new' condition.
