The Triumph Spitfire Mark IV was produced from 1970 through 1974, with 70,021 examples produced. The Mark IV had a completely re-designed cut-off rear end and a cleaned-up front end. The doors now had recessed handles and squared-off glass in the top rear corner. Inside, the updates continued, with the most visible being the full-width dashboard, with instruments positioned in front of the driver rather than over the center console. Initially, this was black plastic however, in 1973, it was replaced with wood.Cars destined for America were given the 1296cc engine. In 1973, displacement rose to 1493cc, and the name was changed to reflect this modification - the Spitfire 1500.
