Ford Ranger has been America 's best-selling compact pickup for 18 years running, offering genuine 'Built Ford Tough' heritage in a high-quality high-value package. It has been honored five consecutive years for highest ownership loyalty by R. L. Polk & Co.

For 2006, Ranger has a more aggressive, bolder, athletic appearance and exp and s its choices of packages and powertrains. The efficient 2.3-liter engine is now available in XL and XLT two-door SuperCab 4x2 versions, while FX4/Off-Road Rangers now come in the two-door SuperCab body style.

With thous and s of available configurations, there's a customized Ranger for every buyer.

It is built in St. Paul , Minn. , at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant.

Design and Equipment

The 2006 Ranger is available in XL, STX, XLT, SPORT, FX4 and FX4 Level II trims, in Regular Cab and two- and four-door SuperCab configurations. A 7-foot box option is available on XL and XLT Regular Cab Styleside models.

Key exterior design elements include aggressive valance and power-dome hood structures and a nostril grille, consistent with the rest of the Ford Truck lineup. This year, changes to the front and rear of the truck further link it to its larger brothers – particularly the prominent 9-inch Ford ovals front and rear.

The sporty and functional interior features seats with sculpted bolsters and seatbacks for comfort and support. Also available are optional sport bucket seats, leather-trimmed seating surfaces and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

A comprehensive selection of packages allows customers to order a Ranger that fits their needs – with skid plates, Alcoa aluminum wheels and Bilstein shocks to blasting earth-shaking music with the Tremor package.

Powertrain and Chassis

The 2.3-liter DOHC I-4 produces 143 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 154 pound-feet of torque at 3,750 rpm. With the highest fuel economy in the compact pickup segment, it's now the st and ard engine for XL and XLT two-door SuperCab 4x2 versions.

Ranger's 3.0-liter OHV V-6 engine is capable of producing 148 horsepower at 4,900 rpm and 180 pound-feet of torque at 3,950 rpm.

Ranger also is available with a 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 that produces 207 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 238 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm. All three engines are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission and are available with a five-speed automatic transmission.

Four-wheel-drive and comprehensive chassis upgrades are available for off-road use.
