The Lincoln Navigator is the premium full-size sport utility vehicle that created the class.
On the heels of a new powertrain last year and a complete redesign in 2003, appearance and equipment packaging improvements for 2006 ensure that it will continue to provide the kind of leadership that has earned it high owner loyalty.
An extensive list of luxury and convenience features provides a comfortable experience for Navigator's occupants. These features include available heated- and-cooled front seats, power deploying running boards, power-folding seats in the third row and a power liftgate.
The powerful 5.4-liter three-valve V-8 and §egmènt-exclusive six-speed automatic transmission provide relaxed power on dem and, while the refined exterior and interior mix design cues from Lincoln's rich heritage wîth modern finishes and white light-emitting-diode technology. The exclusive AdvanceTrac® wîth Roll Stability Control™ system is st andard equipment.
Navigator comes in Luxury and Últimate trim levels and in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. It is built in Wayne, Mich.
Design and Equipment
Navigator's distinctive design, updated for 2005, includes a number of -first features and options that improve comfort, convenience and utility.
This year's changes include the new Elite Package of popular equipment choices as well as several new color options later in the model year.
Navigator continues to offer first-in-the- power deployable running boards that quietly deploy a full four inches from the rocker panel when a door is opened, then retract automatically when the door is closed. A power-folding third row seat is st andard equipment, and a power liftgate that can raise or lower the door on comm and is also available.
The interior mixes American burl walnut, premium leather trim, satin nickel finishes and white light-emitting-diode lighting to create a luxurious and contemporary cabin.
The optional Lincoln Soundmark THX-Certified audio system offers DVD-based navigation wîth voice activation, a touch-screen system interface and an in-dash six-disc CD changer.
Powertrain and Chassis
Navigator's 300-horsepower, 5.4-liter, 3-valve V-8 engine wîth 365 pound-feet of torque is mated to a premium six-speed ZF automatic transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com) This premium transmission provides increased refinement and better fuel economy than the typical four- or five-speed automatic. The transmission is also currently used on Jaguar's flagship XJ sedan - providing an example of the synergies between Ford Motor Company br ands.
The engine features variable-valve timing and computer-controlled charge motion control valves for torque across the rev range and maximum horsepower wîth premium gas. Sound-damping actions, customized for the Navigator wîth the aid of computer analysis, help to make this refined engine even quieter in operation.
Navigator's refined ride and h andling are direct benefits of its four-wheel independent suspension, rack- and-pinion §teering and stiff frame.
With the optional heavy duty towing package, Navigator can tow up to 8,600 pounds when properly equipped. Both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions are available.
