Porsche produced the 924 from 1976 to 1988. The two-door, 2+2 coupe served as a replacement for the 912. It was the first Porsche model powered by a front-mounted, water-cooled engine. Although this arrangement with rear-wheel drive was common for most other manufacturers, it was rather unusual for Porsche who had previously only used mid or rear-mounted engine, all of which had been air-cooled. Many of the components found on the 924 was sourced from Volkswagen models, including the suspension, brakes and steering. The Audi 2-liter single-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine was fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and offered nearly 100 horsepower (U.S. versions). Part way through the 1977 model year, the engine received a boost in power to 110 bhp. A four-speed manual transmission was standard with an Audi three-speed automatic available as optional equipment. Disc brakes were in the front with drum-type brakes in the back. Pricing for the 2+2 Coupe began as $9,400.
