The 4007 expands Peugeot customer's. Choice into the SÚV market the launch of project 'I3', Peugeot's code name for the 4007, is the marque's response to strong growth in the market for compact all-terrain vehicles in Europe, which recorded an increase in volume of 11.3% between 2005 and 2006, and represents more than 1.1 million registered vehicles. The segment occupied by the 4007, the Medium TT2, increased by 7% over the same period, rising from 457,000 to 488,000 units from one year to the next.2009 Peugeot 4007
At the end of the first quarter of 2007, the increase was even more marked, with TT2 volumes rising from 129,000 units to 156,000 units at the end of March, an increase of +21%. Although significant, these volumes are limited in absolute terms and accordingly favoured a partnership approachbetween the PSA Peugeot Citroën group and the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, a recognised specialist in 4x4 technology. The cooperation contract was signed with the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation on 13 July 2005. Production of the Peugeot 4007 began in mid-April with a view to its commercial launch at the beginning of July.

The sporty and refined appeal of the 4007 is also evident in its interior design. The black interior has a Peugeot personality, highlighted by the presence of the steering wheel Lion logo. A 'soft' finish has been given to the fascia panel, with the grain of the instrument panel reproduced on the upper door panels and cloth trim matching that of the seats above the door armrests. Seats on the first level feature a 3-part cloth trim to add a sporty touch. The car's second level comes with leather seats.
