    HUMMER is bringing its unmistakable style and unmatched capability to the truck market with the 2009 H3T. It is based on the architecture of the popular H3, but features a five-passenger crew cab and a separate five-foot-long (1.5 meters) bed.

  • Supercar Weekend Supercar Weekend

    The third annual Palm Beach Supercar Weekend, hailed as the worlds largest waterfront supercar show, was held on Flagler drive in West Palm Beach overlooking the peaceful waterfront. This Intracoastal Waterway housed more than 400 high-end super cars and some of the most exclusive and powerful vehicles on the planet. In preparation for this well advertised, well attended, and much anticipated event, many of the city streets were temporarily closed to traffic to accommodate the show cars. There were many highlights, including the world's fastest street-legal production car, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT, the one-off Pinifarina designed Ferrari P4/5, Ferrari Enzo, Ferrari FXX, Buggati Veyron, and even a McLaren F1. This show provides an educational experience for all ages, allowing onlookers to understand and appreciate the passion and visions behind many of the world's greatest automobiles.

    The official presentation of the Honda Racing F1 Team's 2008 challenger took place today at the team's operational headquarters in Brackley, UK.

    The launch followed an initial shakedown period with the all-new RA108 in Valencia last week, in which the team's race driver line-up of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button put evaluation mileage on the car in preparation for the start of its pre-season testing programme later this week. The role of unveiling the RA108 in the team's 2008 livery today was assigned to new Test and Reserve Driver Alex Wurz. At the wheel of the car for the very first time, Alex drove the RA108 through the pitlane themed auditorium in front of the assembled crowd of 300 international media and guests.

    Honda laid out its plans for 2008 and the longer-term, reaffirming its commitment to the sport and underlining the determination of a revitalised team to realise its ambitions. The team's 2008 challenge sees a substantial evolution in three key areas, the most fundamental of which is a directional step change in the car design philosophy. The entire process from concept to launch has been re-evaluated. The new car is a considered response to the challenges of 2007, benefiting from the combined resources of the Honda Racing F1 Team's three bases in Brackley and Bracknell in the UK and the Honda R&D centre at Tochigi in Japan.

    By 1906 electric cars were dropped and National began building a reputation at the race track. Nationals were driven to an unprescendented 84 first place finishes in races around the country in 1910.

    A Speedway Runabout won the second running of the Indy 500 in 1912. That was the last year National focused on racing and began offering several different models of fine cars. By 1924 the company had gone bankrupt.

    Enthusiasts from all over the country and the world make the annual journey to the West Palm Beach area during January to watch and partake in one of the largest Ferrari automotive gatherings in the country. The Cavallino Classic, now in its 17th year, attracts more than 500 registrants with around 400 cars from 33 states and 12 countries. The Palm Beach area is a suitable location as its warm weather and gorgeous beaches only heightens the allure. Recently, additional events have been added to the weekend making attendance irresistible.

    Enzo Ferrari's company, along with his early racing career, was centered around racing. His road going cars were initially created to finance his track efforts. It is only appropriate that the day-long Cavallino Classic celebration is precluded by four-days of racing, the first two being completely private and closed to the public. This event is for cars that bare the prancing horse emblem; a select few Alfa Romeo and Maserati's are also welcome because of their association with Ferrari.

    The name '48' was used by the Locomobile Company to signify their six-cylinder engines that were originally rated at 48 horsepower. The first Model 48 was introduced in 1911 and remained in production until 1924. At this point, horsepower had skyrocketed to just over 100. When it was first introduced it was a marvel both aesthetically and mechanically. By the mid-1920s it had begun to show its age. Sales reflected and as a result the company was forced to increase their price.

    During the mid-1910s, the Company experimented with custom coachwork to appeal to their wealthy clients. The vehicles were built to customer specifications and created to satisfy their needs and desires. The use of accessories by Tiffany Studios was not uncommon for the Locomobile Company at this time.

    This 1923 Locomobile 48 Sportif is original except tires, wheels (which were resprayed) and fluids. The original cost was $9900 in 1923 .

    Ford of Europe revealed the exciting new look for its 2008 FIA World Rally Championship campaign as the team was unveiled at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham.

    The Focus RS World Rally Car, which powered Ford to the manufacturers' world title in both 2006 and 2007, sports a striking modern livery that took centre stage today at Europe's largest annual motorsport exhibition. It was also announced that the squad will be named the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team for 2008.

    The team's new driver line-up of Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala were joined by Ford of Europe's new motorsport director, Mark Deans, and team director Malcolm Wilson as they revealed the Focus RS WRC's colour scheme for the first time.

    'The Focus RS WRC has a new, contemporary livery which blends perfectly with the outlook of the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team,' explained Deans. 'This is our first full season in partnership with BP and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and their importance to our WRC program is reflected in the team's new name and their prominence on the car.

    The Porsche 997 is now available with upgrades from Gemballa. The list of enhancements include an increase in displacement to 3.8-liters and a replacement of the stock turbochargers with Garret T035 units. Additional improvements to the engine include new heads, crankshaft, and upgraded connecting rods. The result of all these enhancements is an astonishing 850 horsepower and 690 foot-pounds of torque. The suspension has been beefed up with an H&R coil over suspension system, adjustable front and rear anti-sway bars, and 19-inch wheels and Yokohama AVS Sport tires.

    The BMW Sauber F1 Team took delivery of the fastest car in the BMW range at BMW Welt in Munich. The team was presented with the BMW Sauber F1.08 against the futuristic backdrop of the brand's new vehicle delivery center. The presentation, which took place before an audience of several hundred media representatives from around the world, included a spectacular cameo from Nick Heidfeld. As the longest-serving F1 driver in the BMW ranks, the German took the new car for a spin inside the vast building. The serious testing, however, will begin with the roll-out of the car at the Valencia race circuit in Spain. The BMW Sauber F1.08 is eye-catching with its imposing front wing and extremely slim rear, and boasts a wealth of innovative technology.

    The BMW Sauber F1 Team has completed its development phase, motivation is strong and its plans are ambitious: in what will be its third season on the Formula One grid the team is aiming to close the gap to the leading teams and has targeted a first race win. 'We're setting our sights high,' admits BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, 'and we'll have to make further improvements in all areas to achieve what we want to. However, the past two years have instilled confidence within the team. We met our goals in both 2006 and 2007, we are heading in the right direction, and everybody in Munich and Hinwil is focused on the job in hand. If we continue our progress along this path we will also fulfil our aims for 2008.'

    The C2 Corvette followed in the same basic principals of the C1 - it was built on a steel ladder chassis and clothed in a fiberglass body. Many other vehicles at this time were built using a unitary chassis construction which meant it difficult or impossible for coachbuilders to create their own custom and unique creations on this platform. The Corvette became a popular vehicle for European coachbuilders to work their craft. One of the more famous and popular coachbuilders was Pininfarina, who created a version called the Rondine Coupe which was prominently displayed at the 1963 Paris Motorshow. The car has remained in the ownership of Pininfarina since its creation. In 2008, the car was brought to the Barrett-Jackson Auction where it was offered for sale. It is a concept car that has seen very little use, been shown sparingly, and enjoyed single ownership since new. It is an attractive vehicle with many design features that would later make their way into the Fiat 124 Spyder. As the gavel fell at auction signaling new ownership, the car had traded hands for a cool $1.6 million, not including commission, taxes, and fees.

    The inaugural Gooding & Company Scottsdale Auction was a stunning success, with a grand total of more than $21 million for 64 cars sold, of which 7 cars sold for more than $1 million individually. World-record sales were set for the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 ($1.54 million) and the Rolls-Royce Phantom II Streamline Saloon ($852,000).

    Additional highlights from the dynamic auction included the 1963 Ferrari 400 Superamerica and the Packard Individual Custom Eight Convertible, which each sold for more than $1 million. The Model J Duesenberg 'Clear-Vision' Sedan also broke the million dollar mark, due in part to its refined sedan body and its remarkable history.


    Gooding & Company's star car, the 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider, sold for $3.3 million, the highest price paid during the week-long Scottsdale auctions as of press time. This vehicle was one of only fifty long-wheelbase California Spiders ever produced.

    The birthplace of the muscle car era sang a new tune this year as mounting concerns about global warming, record high oil prices, and tough new federal fuel economy laws going into effect, have the collective auto industry moving down the same road. This year's Detroit Auto Show could be summarized by the words: 'eco friendly', 'green', and 'alternative fuel sources.' Nearly every automaker had joined the bandwagon and proudly proclaimed their allegiance to alternative fuel sources and improved fuel economy.

    Most of the concept cars this year had very practical exterior designs; the interiors, the technology, and the powertrains were the real concepts. The powertrains of the automotive industry are evolving quicker than in any recent year. This is an industry that is furiously exploring ways to drastically reduce vehicles' fuel consumption without compromising performance. It is conceivable that in the very near future, the fusions of mean and green will be a reality for a much broader list of consumers.

    It is exciting to watch the proliferation of eco-friendly technology evolve well beyond the original niches in which it was initially deployed. Early hybrid cars meant that the consumer was buying a compact car. Today, the use of hybrid technology can be found in all facets of the industry, from subcompact to pickup, and from minivan to supercar. Detroit, and the entire auto industry, is aggressively working to bring their concepts to production, and based on this years show, have made significant strides at achieving this goal.

    New 'Green' Machine Makes World Wide Premiere at the North American International Auto Show

    Fisker Automotive, Inc., a green American premium sports car company, today unveiled its first production car, the Fisker Karma, at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The first of its kind four-door plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan will have a starting price of $80,000. Initial deliveries of the Karma will commence in the 4th quarter of 2009 with annual production projected to reach 15,000 cars. The first 99 cars off the assembly line will be individually numbered and signed by Henrik Fisker and will be produced in the color and trim of the show car seen at NAIAS.

    In Buddhism/Hinduism, Karma is defined as the force generated by a person's good or evil actions which determines the nature of the person's next existence. The Fisker Karma allows consumers to practice good Karma – driving a car that is environmentally friendly – without sacrificing the extreme comfort and style of the luxury automobile category.

    Lancer Ralliart is powered by the new 4B11 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC intercooled and turbocharged engine (also used in the Lancer Evolution) that develops an estimated 235 horsepower. The engine is mated to Mitsubishi's efficient Twin Clutch-SST gearbox that helps enhance the sporty nature of the vehicle by allowing the driver to execute lightning-quick, silky-smooth, paddle-actuated shifts. The TC-SST transmission also operates in fully automatic modes for Normal and Sport driving conditions.

    The Lancer Ralliart's full-time 4WD driveline features Mitsubishi's Active Center Differential (ACD). The ACD unit employs an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch center differential, vectoring drive torque to the front and rear according to different driving conditions to realize the best balance between steering response and traction characteristics on Tarmac, Gravel, or Snow surfaces.

    Lancer Ralliart is also equipped with front helical limited slip differential and a rear differential mechanical limited slip differential.

    Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., unveiled the all-new 2009 Venza crossover sedan at a press conference here today at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Venza will raise the crossover vehicle to new levels by combining a unique blend of sedan refinement and sport utility vehicle (SUV) functionality.

    'The all-new Venza was developed as a vehicle that combines the styling, comfort and fun-to-drive performance elements of a five-passenger sedan with the surprising utility of an SUV,' said Bob Carter, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager. 'This winning combination will be ideal for active ‘boomers' and young couples with small families.'

    All aspects of Venza's engineering and design were targeted specifically for the North American market where it will be sold exclusively. Venza was primarily engineered at Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., and designed at Toyota's Calty design studios in Newport Beach, Calif. and Ann Arbor, Mich. Venza will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK), in Georgetown, Ky.

    The development focus of the Venza design team was to create a new crossover vehicle that shifted away from the more traditional SUV styling themes that tend to dominate the segment. Calty designers leaned more heavily on a sleek sedan concept with a wide stance that featured a sporty exterior and premium comfort interior but would also be equipped with important SUV attributes such as cargo space, towing capability and all-wheel-drive performance.

    Chrysler's concept for 2008 – the ecoVoyager – marries an elegant American design with fuel cell Range-extended Electric Vehicle technology.

    'The 2008 Chrysler ecoVoyager concept vehicle celebrates the romance of automobile travel embodied in a four-door, four-passenger, distinctively American automobile of spirited design,' said Greg Howell, principal ecoVoyager concept exterior designer. 'While the ecoVoyager's supple, flowing one-box shape is purposely designed to achieve aerodynamic efficiencies, it also pushes the Chrysler brand language in a new direction of 'elegant simplicity,' by taking full advantage of the space normally occupied by a bulky conventional powertrain setup to drastically reduce the front overhang.'

    Featuring crisscrossing forms defined by hard lines with fluid intersections, the style vocabulary of the ecoVoyager embodies Chrysler's harmonization of functional technology with beautifully-styled exteriors and interiors.

    The Chrysler ecoVoyager concept was developed for customers wanting a travel experience on par with a private jet, but without a lot of fancy gadgetry. These customers seek three critical attributes: elegance, simplicity and serenity.

    The 2008 Dodge ZEO -- Zero Emissions Operation – concept vehicle is a four-passenger, all-electric, '2+2' sport wagon that embraces the bold, emotional characteristic of the Dodge brand. With its 23-inch wheels-to-the corners, heroic proportions and muscular forms, the ZEO exhibits a new youthful breed of muscle-machine interface.

    Dodge owners and those who will desire the ZEO concept are unquestionably driving enthusiasts. They are less family-oriented, with a desire for things that are high-tech, and place less emphasis on pure practicality. While they boast environmental and overall responsibility, they also exhibit a 'need for speed.'

    'The Dodge ZEO concept is designed to break the paradigm of what an electric car should look like,' said Bill Zheng, Dodge ZEO principal exterior designer. 'An electric car can be as expressive as any gasoline-powered vehicle. The Dodge ZEO concept proves that point – and then some.'

    To this end, the ZEO's body has been given an active, three-dimensional form, with the fenders boldly offset to the body.

    The engineers and designers at Lexus continue to use their groundbreaking LF-A premium sports car concept as a medium for expressing their ideas about what a high-performance sporting vehicle not only can be, but should be. In this latest expression of the LF-A, they have removed the car's top to create a high-performance roadster.

    The LF-A Roadster is based on the sturdy yet lightweight carbon-fiber and aluminum body used for the LF-A coupe, which helps maintain the structure's strength and rigidity even without a top.

    Like its coupe counterpart, the LF-A Roadster is powered by a high-revving V10 engine that approaches 5.0 liters in displacement. The V10, capable of more than 500 horsepower and test-track speeds greater than 200 mph, is mounted in front of the passenger compartment but behind the front-axle centerline in what the LF-A's engineers refer to as a 'front-mid' configuration.

    The engine is connected via a torque tube and propeller shaft to a transaxle that is controlled by paddle shifters. The torque tube is a structural member that adds rigidity to the drivetrain and chassis while also reducing vibration.

    The Lincoln MKT concept features a 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine with turbocharging and direct injection that produces the power and torque of a V-8 engine with the fuel efficiency of a V-6. EcoBoost – combined with advanced transmissions, electric power steering, weight reductions and aerodynamic improvements – is a key part of Ford Motor Company's vehicle sustainability strategy.

    The company is introducing EcoBoost engines that will deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy on half a million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles annually in North America within the next five years. Ford will first introduce EcoBoost in the Lincoln MKS next year. The luxury sedan will feature a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6, delivering an estimated 340-horsepower and more than 340 lb.-ft. of torque on regular gas.

    'EcoBoost engines can deliver better fuel economy and performance on a full range of vehicles, from small cars to large trucks,' said Mark Fields, president of The Americas. 'The Lincoln MKT concept offers the comfort of a luxury sedan, the spaciousness and flexibility of a full-size utility and the performance of a sporty roadster – executed with new technologies and materials that make it as environmentally friendly as it is elegant.

    'The Lincoln MKT concept is understated but powerful – inside, outside and under the hood.'

    Inspired by the fact that, on any given weekend, there are more Mazdas and Mazda-powered cars road-raced in the United States than any other brand, the Mazda Furai (Japanese for 'sound of the wind' and pronounced 'fu-rye') is the sort of car that could only come from a company that incorporates the 'Soul of a Sports Car' into everything it builds, but with an eye toward the future and the environment through the use of 100% ethanol produced in partnership with British Petroleum (BP).

    Furai takes Mazda's unique Nagare (Japanese for 'flow') design language a step further as it is translated into a concept car based on an American Le Mans Series (ALMS) racing car. The car utilizes the Courage C65 chassis the company campaigned in the ALMS series only two seasons ago, and the 450-hp three-rotor rotary engine that distinguishes it from anything else on the track.

    Says Franz von Holzhausen, Mazda's North American director of design, 'Furai purposely blurs boundaries that have traditionally distinguished street cars from track cars. Historically, there has been a gap between single-purpose racecars and street-legal models -- commonly called supercars -- that emulate the real racers on the road. Furai bridges that gap like no car has ever done before.'

    Audi is presenting a revolution in the top class at the Detroit Auto Show 2008 – the first 12-cylinder diesel engine in a high-performance roadgoing sports car. The V12 TDI with a displacement of six liters powers a concept car based on the Audi R8. This unit generates a huge 500 hp and 1,000 Newton-meters (737.56 lb-ft) of torque. Audi is writing a new chapter in diesel technology with this power unit. Equipped with the expertise that Audi has built up through its motor sport activities, the R8 V12 TDI in matt 'Grace Silver' embodies superb road handling, pioneering technology and fascinating design.

    The V12 TDI is closely related to the engine in the Audi R10, the two-time Le Mans winner – so it catapults the Audi R8 into supercar terrain concerning performance too. It sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 4.2 seconds and its top speed is well over 300 km/h (186.41 mph). The peak torque, reached at only 1,750 rpm, paves the way for effortless acceleration that is unrivaled even at this level.

    The new V12 TDI belongs to Audi's family of V engines but has the ideal included angle for this engine type of 60 degrees between cylinder banks. Its highlights include the new chain drive layout that includes the two newly developed high-pressure pumps for the common rail injection system.

    Its sound is as thrilling as you'd expect in a sports car of this caliber. For all the subtle smoothness that typifies this design principle, the twelve-cylinder unit is full-bodied and equipped with energetic overtones that make no secret of its performance potential.

    Volkswagen of America, Inc. welcomes the all-new CC, an evocative new coupe with sedan access and functionality. The CC features a muscular shoulder line, which visually connects the front wheel wells to the taillights, providing the emotional and expressive stance of a sports coupé with the convenience of a sedan.

    The Passat CC will come standard in the U.S. with the 2.0 TSI engine with 200 horsepower and 207 lbs.-ft of torque, available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic transmission. Available optionally is the 3.6L FSI, rated at 280 horsepower and 266 lbs.-ft of torque. The 3.6L FSI comes standard with the six-speed Tiptronic transmission.

    With an unmistakable front-end, the grille sports two cross-struts and a centrally placed Volkswagen logo between trapezoidal headlamps. In the lower area, three large air inlets and integrated turn signals and fog lights dominate the visual image. The lower air inlets are formed by a sporty spoiler that optimizes the highs peed downforce. An indicator of the CC's excellent overall aerodynamic qualities is its drag coefficient of cw 0.29.

    The rear end of the coupé is also marked by large-surface dual taillights, which produce an unmistakable visual image, day and night. A rear spoiler – styled into the trunk lid – tames air turbulence and, like its counterpart at the front end, supplies greater downforce. The large rear window continues the coupé's roof line, extending into the short but high-opening trunk lid. The styling makes the window appear even larger and the trunk lid even smaller. It extends the look of the glass and underscores the dynamic character of the CC.

    The modified X3 renders his passion. As HUNTER it embodies a fine sleek manner of moving expertly and stylishly over rough and smooth. The necessary ground clearance of 23 cm is provided by longer spring/damper units, additional front spacer blocks and very good all-terrain-pneus (255/55 R 18) which are mounted on HARTGEs CLASSIC 2 light alloy wheels. A considerable larger angle of driving slope (for example 31 instead of 23.9 at the front) and an improved ramp angle made possible despite the use of a continuous solid underbody skid plate made of stainless steel forgiving even hard hits of the ground, predestine the HUNTER for the hunting-ground, in which its off-road tyre patterns leave impressive footprints. Thanks to a shortened axle drive ratio, an excellent traction and an increased torque, the 3.0d - whose Common-Rail-engine HARTGE pushed to 253 bhp (compared to 218 bhp in the production X3) clambers up slopes up to 48. Further terrain capabilities are certified with a wading depth of 50 cm and a axle articulation index of 63 percent.

    The 'S' emblem that spells extraordinary performance in the Audi range graces the TT for the first time this month in a new, even more focused version of the iconic sports car debuting at the North American International Auto Show (January 19-27). Destined for the UK in mid-2008 in both Coupé and Roadster body styles, the TTS earns its esteemed badge through the adoption of a specially developed, 272PS Turbo FSI petrol engine complemented by state-of-the-art chassis technology.


    Extensive revisions to the acclaimed 2.0-litre turbo charged and directly fuel injected petrol engine that already powers the TT have enabled its power to be boosted from 200PS to 272PS and its torque from 280Nm to 350Nm, available between 2,500 and 5,000rpm. Linked to six-speed, close ratio manual transmission the enhanced unit slingshots the TTS Coupé from rest to 62mph in just 5.2 seconds, and on the Autobahn is only curtailed by its electronic limiter at 155mph. With the optional S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission acceleration times are reduced by a further two-tenths of a second in both the Coupé and Roadster.


    In addition to the evocative 'S' insignia, the most extreme production TT to date highlights its capabilities from the front through newly designed bi-xenon headlamps incorporating trademark Audi LED strip daytime running lights, a redesigned front apron incorporating larger air intakes and aluminium-look door mirror housings. The profile view is enhanced by deeper side skirts and exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels, which can be swapped for 19-inch alternatives at extra cost, while at the rear a revised rear bumper with - for the first time in a TT – four tailpipes protruding from its extended diffuser subtly conveys the newcomer's extra performance potential.

    Leading model Eva Padberg and the new Mercedes sports coupé CLC share top billing in the key visual for the second Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, which takes place from January 27 - 31, 2008. The new CLC will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the fashion event.

    A new British-built sportscar, which combines a stylish, ultra-lightweight two-seater body with exceptional chassis dynamics and awesome performance is unveiled at the 2008 Autosport International Show at the NEC in Birmingham. MM Industries, which now owns the former Strathcarron sportscar business, is presenting its production Avocet two-seater during the show's two trade days, prior to a public launch later in the year.

    The Avocet is displayed by Surface Transforms (Stand E304) - whose latest technology carbon ceramic brake system is fitted to the car. The system, which will be available as an extra cost option, reduces overall weight by 2.5 kilograms per corner, with a resultant improvement in handling and braking performance.

    The car will be built in South Essex by the specialist automotive engineering and motorsport team which recently acquired the business of Roush Technologies in the UK. The vehicle will use selected Ford standard and performance parts, which will give the car a mature component inventory which is fully tested and proven in the market.

    Toyota's challenging spirit and determination to meet ambitious targets has played a key part in the evolution of the TF108, with key features of the new car being a longer wheelbase, a major aerodynamic upgrade, revised suspension and a new gearbox. Wind tunnel tests and simulations show the TF108 is a marked improvement on its predecessor and the team expects to move closer to its long-term aim of winning races and fighting for the World Championship.

    For the first time, Aston Martin Racing is designing this car to run on either standard race fuel or E85 bio-ethanol (where regulations allow). In 2007, Aston Martin Racing successfully converted a standard DBRS9 to run on E85.

    The Thomas Flyer automobile that won the historic New York-to-Paris 'Great Race' in 1908 will come to the Florida coast for the 13th annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, March 7-9, 2008. Contested 100 years ago, the torturous race covered the width of the United States before stopping at points in Alaska, Japan, Siberia, and Berlin before ending in Paris. It has never been run again.


    With the automobile barely a decade old, the thought of an around-the-globe race was unheard of at the time, but also very tempting to the adventurers of the day. The New York-to-Paris race turned out to be much more than a race; it was about national pride and the quest for automotive superiority among the leading 'modernized' countries of the era. Sponsored by The New York Times and the Paris-based La Matin paper, teams from France (Motobloc, DeDion, Sizaire-Naudin), Italy (Zust), Germany (Protos), and the United States (Thomas) were entered in the grueling challenge. Nearly 250,000 people were on hand February 12, 1908, to cheer the cars as they started from Times Square. The winning Thomas Flyer covered 22,000 miles in 169 days, a record that still stands today.

    This 1925 Miller 122 Front Drive Race Car has a racing history that spans 21 years. It raced at the Indianapolis 500 on multiple occasions and scoring a sixth-place finish on one of those attempts. It is known as Front Drive #2 and is truly one of the greatest racing cars of all times.


    This car has a 120.8 cubic-inch supercharged dual overhead camshaft inline eight-cylinder engine that produces over 200 horsepower. There is a three-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drum brakes. Most of the Miller racing cars have been destroyed, wrecked, or parted out. It is rare to come upon a true survivor, and this one was brought to the 2007 Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction presented by RM Auctions, where it had an estimated value of $500,000 - $600,000. It was offered without reserve. The high bid fell just short of the estimated value, reaching $495,000 including buyer's premium, and secured new ownership. The lot was sold.

    The Corvette Z06 E85 concept pace car is based on the production Z06 – already one of the fastest and most powerful cars on the market – and blends its performance with the high-octane, renewable alternative fuel that is derived from a variety of crops grown across the United States.


    E85 is blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Its benefits include reduced emissions of greenhouse gases and a reduced dependence on petroleum. GM is the leader in E85 production models, with more than 2.5 million E85-capable cars, trucks and SUVs on the road – with more on the way. Chevrolet offers seven E85-capable models in 2008.


    Apart from the fuel system and powertrain controller revisions required to run E85, the Z06 concept pace car is mechanically stock. It is distinguished by a unique Gold Rush Green color-shifting paint scheme that changes between hues of green and gold when viewed from different angles and in different light. A subtle checkered flag pattern also is part of the paint scheme. Safety equipment and strobe lights are the only other equipment added to the car.

    Vodafone McLaren Mercedes today presented the MP4-23, the team's 2008 Formula 1 car, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.

    Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Daimler Board, and Ron Dennis, Chairman and CEO of the McLaren Group, welcomed all the guests to the official presentation, with Lewis Hamilton, who celebrates his 23rd birthday today, and Heikki Kovalainen joined on stage by Pedro de la Rosa and fellow test driver Gary Paffett to unveil the MP4-23. The car was completed yesterday and left the McLaren Technology Centre in the UK at around 18:00 GMT on Sunday and was driven in a Mercedes-Benz Actros to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim, having covered approximately 1000kms, arriving around 10:00 this morning.

    Upon arrival in Stuttgart, the car was transported to the 53,000 sqm Mercedes-Benz Museum, one of the world's largest and most renowned car museums. About 700 Mercedes-Benz employees from the nearby manufacturing plant Stuttgart-Untertürkheim had the opportunity to attend today's event at the end of their early shift alongside the more than 400 media and other guests. The Mercedes-Benz employees had the opportunity to enter a draw of which the lucky winners were able to meet and spend some time with Lewis and Heikki.

    This 328 chassis number 85337 was one of the three ordered by the German government to run in the 2-liter class for the 1939 season. They finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in class at LeMans. Later that year, they again finished 1-2-3 in the replacement Mille Miglia staged in Northern Africa. By 1963, the car ended up in with noted automotive historian and author, Denis Jenkinson.

    In 1949 Dodge introduced the Coronet which was the top trim level offered by Dodge. It was similar to the Meadowbrook models in many respects, deviating in their interior appointments and minor differences with trim. The base level four-door sedan bodystyle was offered for under $1930. The top of the line version was the two-door station wagon which had seating for six and cost $2865. An L-head six-cylinder engine produced just over 100 horsepower could be found under the hood. A three-speed transmission with Fluid-Drive was standard equipment.


    For 1950 the Dodge Coronet continued to be Dodge's top-of-the-line vehicle. It still was very similar to the Meadowbrook; it include all of its features plus added addition chrome trim on the wheels, rear fender guards and was adorned with the 'Coronet' name proudly displayed on the exterior of the vehicle. Little changed for the following year. For 1952 the eight-passenger sedan was no longer offered. In 1953 the Dodge Coronet incorporated an air scoop on its hood. Under the Ram hood ornament could be found the word 'Dodge V-8' for the eight-cylinder variants. The Hemi head overhead valve V8 engine was capable of producing 140 horsepower. The six-cylinder unit produced 103 horsepower.


    In 1954 the Coronet name was used on the intermediate trim levels. Chrome trim could be found throughout the exterior of the vehicle including a chrome strip that ran along the middle of the body. In ***** letters, the name 'Coronet' could now be found on the sides of the rear fenders. The base price for the four-door six-passenger sedan was $2110. The top of the line bodystyle was the four-door Sierra with seating for six and would set the buyer back $2695. The Coronet made an appearance at the Indy 500 where the convertible body style was the official pace car.

    Ferrari has released a sneak preview of their F2008. Their official launch, to be held in Maranello, Italy, on January 6th of 2008. This marks Ferrari as the first F1 team to unveil its car in 2008. Toyota will follow on January 10th, followed by BMW Sauber on January 14th, Honda on January 29 and Renault on January 31st. The other teams, including Williams, Red Bull, Scuderia Toro Rosso, Force India and Super Aguri are expected to display their new vehicles later on.

    In the post-World War II era, it was not uncommon for cars to be sent to custom coachbuilders to be bodied with unique designs constructed to meet the needs adn desires of the customers. Pierce Arrow sent many of their chassis's to Brunn because they were located in Buffalo, New York. One of their more elegant and memorable creations was the Metropolitan Town Car of 1936 which carried a price tag of $5,795 when outfitted with the twelve cylinder engine. It was the highest priced Pierce-Arrow in 1936.


    As 1936 came to a close, Pierce-Arrow sent a V12 Limousine with the divider window and a 147-inch wheelbase to the Durham Body Company of Rosemont, Pennsylvania. It is believed that this prototype was possibly a replacement for the Metropolitan Town Car in 1937 but this would never come to fruition. As a result, this is the only example in existence.

    To achieve the desired increase in power output of 223 hp / 164 kW for the fast-revving engine that normally produces 507 hp / 373 kW, G-POWER, in cooperation with ASA Automotive, has developed a high-tech supercharging system. The system uses one belt-driven ASA T1-12 compressor for each cylinder bank. Contrary to conventional mechanical chargers that waste a large portion of the additional power on being driven themselves, the ASA compressor has an efficiency rate of up to 80 percent. The ASA charger is also small, which allows G-POWER to install two of them in the tight confines of the M5 engine bay. With a maximum airstream volume of up to 1,200 kg per hour per cylinder bank the compressors are designed for an even higher power output. Boost pressure is limited to 0.5 bars.

    A mere meter in height, the body of the Birdcage 75th draws upon two aerodynamic forms: a central teardrop-shaped cell encapsulates passengers and primary mechanical components, and this teardrop is suspended in a vast inverted wing form. The upper half of the central cell is transparent, so the driver has excellent visibility and the car's Maserati engineering-from its pushrod suspension to its over-700 hp V12 engine.

    The SLK 55 AMG is now even more dynamic: a new front apron and dark-tinted headlamps give this unique eight-cylinder roadster an even more athletic look even at a standstill. The specific AMG bodystyling also includes AMG side skirts, the muscular AMG rear apron with a black insert and the AMG spoiler lip.

    The Ferrari 121 LM was powered by a Lampredi designed, six-cylinder engine. The engine had been created by utilizing the successful four-cylinder engine and adding two-cylinder to the 2-liter four. The result was called the 306 and was used during the close of the 1954 season. The '306' was really just a developmental version of what would come in the years that followed. The results of testing and experimentation were the Type 118 and Type 121. The Type 118 was a 3.7-liter engine and fitted into what became known as the 376 S. The Type 121 was a larger 4.4-liter unit, officially known as the 446 S, and it too powered Ferraris constructed by Scaglietti. The names of the 376 S and the 446 S were later changed to the 118 LM and the 121 LM. There were three versions of both constructed. One of the 118 LM was later modified to the 121 LM specifications.


    A single 118 LM was entered by the factory into the Buenos Aires 1000 km race and was joined by several privateers. The was the first major race for the 118 LM and expectations were high. Sadly, the car was disqualified and unable to finish the race. It had taken a wrong route into the pits and as a result it was forced to end the race prematurely. Two privateers were able to finished in the top two positions for Ferrari.

    The Ferrari F2 was raced for a couple of seasons where it was pitted against competition such as the British HWM, Maserati, Gordinis, and Connaughts. During those grueling seasons, the Ferrari 500 F2 proved its potential by being raced on many weekends throughout the years and emerging victorious in many of the races. The Lampredi powered car carried Alberto Ascari to two world titles and brought fame to the name, Ferrari. The car was not just limited to the factory; many privateers purchased examples and expanded the fame of the 500.


    Ingegnere Lampredi was of the strong opinion that the 2-liter car did not need to be powered by a twelve-cylinder unit, but rather a smaller and lighter unit could provide many benefits. He convinced Enzo that a four-cylinder unit would be more competitive and fuel efficient. It would become one of the few Ferrari cars to be powered by a four-cylinder unit. The four-cylinder engine would be used in Ferrari sports cars and single seat racers during the 1950s. The engine was mounted in the front of the 4500 F1 derived chassis and sent power to the rear wheels. A fuel tank sat behind the driver. A small windscreen protected the driver from the elements. The front suspension was fully independent while the rear was a de Dion layout.

    The new Focus RS will be based on the dynamic new Focus ST. It will be developed by Ford Team RS, a specialist team led by Jost Capito who, as previously announced, is being appointed to the new role as Vehicle Line Director for Ford of Europe Performance Vehicles from January 1, 2008.

    Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) is pursuing a world strategy designed for long-term growth. Following the launch of its acclaimed fourth world strategic model, the Splash, at the 2007 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, the company is developing the fifth exciting model in its strategy. It will be showing some of the forthcoming model's design themes at Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi (9-17 January) in the form of the Concept A-Star.

It will have an all new Euro 5-compliant 1.0-litre aluminium petrol engine with CO2 emissions lower than those of European competitors (target: lower than 109g/km).
