  • Unveiling of Koenigsegg Edition at Geneva Unveiling of Koenigsegg Edition at Geneva

The Edition will be on show at the Geneva International Motor Show between the 4th and the 16th March 2008.

The Edition is the ultimate supercar – a Koenigsegg at its most extreme - built to break records and deliver breathtaking performance. Only a very few models will be produced, in order to ensure exclusive status amongst supercar owners.

It has a clear, fully visible carbon fibre body, and is available in two versions: the 4.8 litre 888bhp CCX Edition and the CCXR Edition, which can be driven on environmentally friendly ethanol E85 and E100 fuels, as well as regular petrol. When run on E85 fuel the 4.8 litre engine produces 1018 bhp.

Furthermore there are many unique details on the car. The new forged, machined and polished aluminium Edition wheels for example, which are extremely light and incorporate optimum brake cooling. The bright, polished surface of the wheels was chosen to maximize the contrast against the exclusive black clear carbon body.

  • BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept

The Geneva Motor Show (4 through 16 March) will mark the world premiere of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, a concept car designed to showcase the future direction of BMW's performance enhancing and emissions lowering innovations. Mild ActiveHybrid technology is combined with a twin-turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine, a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and even roof-mounted solar panels, and all shrouded in a BMW X5 body.

All of these technologies combine to deliver the best fuel economy and lowest emissions of any large 4x4 currently on sale. The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics delivers 43.5mpg on the combined cycle and just 172g/km of CO2 emissions. However, these frugal figures do not translate into low performance figures. With its twin-turbocharged two-litre diesel engine delivering more than 100hp per litre, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept completes the sprint from zero to 62mph in just 8.9 seconds, a time faster than most current production competitors.
  • MINI Cooper S Clubman JCW MINI Cooper S Clubman JCW

A big name, a long tradition, outstanding performance, figures and an incomparable driving experience: the MINI John Cooper Works arouses motor racing passion which goes beyond the race track. In August 2008 the new model - produced at the British MINI plant in Oxford - will be coming to Germany along with the MINI John Cooper Works Clubman. • Opel Meriva Concept Opel Meriva Concept

With the dynamically styled Meriva Concept, Opel/Vauxhall presents the next level of monocab flexibility at the International Motor Show in Geneva (March 6 – 16, 2008). The concept car features rear-hinged rear doors on both sides of the car called FlexDoors. While the front doors are conventionally designed with front hinges, the rear doors swing open towards the back of the car. Another feature of the family-oriented Meriva Concept is that the front and rear doors can open independently of each other. Rear-hinged rear doors already on the market can only be opened after the front door has been opened, which severely limits their practicality.

The Meriva Concept's design is distinguished by its attractive combination of practicality and spaciousness with very dynamic and cool styling. The concept car's distinctive window line, arched roof, wide track and impressively sculpted body give a good indication of what is to be expected from future Opel/Vauxhall production monocabs.
  • Audi A4 Avant Audi A4 Avant

Dynamic, elegant, and emotional; with the A4 sedan, Audi has already advanced into a new dimension. In a few weeks, the A4 Avant will follow: The most successful premium station wagon of its class offers, along with excellent drivability and uncompromising quality, a higher utility value for sports and recreation. This vehicle combines elegance and intelligent functionality.

The Audi A4 Avant is extending its lead. Based on the same technology layout as the sedan, the newly developed five-link front axle has been shifted farther forward. This ensures that the axle loads are perfectly distributed, thereby guaranteeing the highest precision and agility when it comes to handling. The Avant therefore also offers a new and fascinating driving experience similar to the one that led media experts to pronounce the sedan the best automobile in the midsize range.

Audi is launching the A4 Avant with five engine types to begin with: two gasoline engines and three diesel engines. These engines offer superior performance while reducing fuel consumption by more than 14 percent compared to the previous model – proof of Audi's successful efficiency strategy.
  • Jaguar XKE Series 1 Aluminum Jaguar XKE Series 1 Aluminum

The speed and handling of this beautiful car is only surpassed by its impeccably prepared polished aluminum exterior. The body panels are all alloy. The roll cage is built to FIA specifications.

The car was purchased in the UK. It was then prepared by the Jaguar factory, but when the owner was ready for further development, he turned the car over to Gordon Brown of Red Rose Racing. Brown fitted the car with all the components to make the car a racing legend. The owner had the support of the Jaguar Factory, which in 1966, replaced the original 3.3l engine with the 4.2L engine which still powers the car today.

Since coming to the US in December of 1993, it has raced at Sebring, Road Atlanta and Texas World Speedway with excellent results. In 1995, it set the record for the fastest Jaguar in North America.

It employs more than 100 people. The inaugural ceremony is also an excellent opportunity to present the 2008 season of the Abarth Racing Team.
  • Alfa Romeo 8C Spider Alfa Romeo 8C Spider

Alfa Romeo once again unveils its new models onto the world market at the Geneva event. Indeed, following on from the Alfa 159 and Brera in 2005, the 159 Sportwagon and Spider in 2006, and its Personalisation Programme going by the name of 'Alfa Unica' in 2007, it is now the turn of the alluring Alfa 8C Spider.

Undisputed centre stage on the stand, this new car inherits its coupe sibling's winning formula that shook the motoring world. Put together by Alfa's Centro Stile and production limited to 500 cars, this new open top immediately entices with that unmistakable 'Italian elegance', a unique and inimitable style that hints at its typically sporty Alfa handling.

Under the bonnet is a powerful 8 cylinder 4.7 litre engine producing 450 HP, matched to a 6 speed robotic gearbox, the new Alfa 8C Spider is truly beautiful, powerful and rock solid, where its gracious lines and dimensions gel perfectly with typical Alfa Romeo engineering and drive-ability. The Exige Cup 260, once again represents Lotus' most radical version of the Exige, with the track environment being its home and for 2008, the Lotus Sport Exige Cup 260 has full European homologation for road use (a must have for some competitive environments where a road legal car has to be entered).

There are further product changes: all Lotus Sport Exige Cup 260 cars now have a number of the 2008 Model year improvements from the road versions of the Elise and Exige.
  • Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes MP4-23 Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes MP4-23

After everything, they should have painted it red and adorned it with a horse rearing up into the air. Then it would have been seen whether people had a sense of humor.

Last year was filled with controversy, a level greater than that of the era when Prost and Senna were teammates if that were possible. Things looked very promising and very quickly began to unravel into utter turmoil. After a winless 2006 season for McLaren (which was the first time in over a decade that happened), things were looking brighter. Gone were both Raikkonen and Montoya who just could not unify the team and make the car better. McLaren was able to secure Fernando Alonso, the two-time and reigning world champion. And oh yeah…there was this other driver named Lewis Hamilton. Yes, this Lewis guy may be an unknown, but the team still had Alonso. And yet, things changed...fast.

Initially it all looked good. Despite the dominant win by Raikkonen in Melbourne, Alonso was able to come home second with Hamilton amazingly following in short order. Hamilton kept pace with Alonso, in fact outpaced Fernando many times. But this competitiveness should have been a warning sign to the team. Soon frustrations toward the new hotshot began to well up within the reigning world champion. Alonso began to feel slighted by the team. It seemed the number one was being treated the same as number one hundred and one. And then there was 'spygate'. Those technical Ferrari team files found on a McLaren-Mercedes team computer signaled McLaren's end in the fight for the Constructors championship, but not the Drivers'. Despite all these distractions, McLaren-Mercedes reemerged from the grave.

  • Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe

In 2006, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveiled 101EX, an experimental car hand-built to explore an exciting new design direction for a modern coupé. Wrapped in a sleek, rakish body, 101EX was an engineering-led study, showcasing the technical and architectural innovation inherent in the quintessential modern Rolls-Royce car. Both handsome and elegant, it encapsulated the essence of contemporary coupé style.

So positive was the worldwide reaction to 101EX that, in autumn 2007, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced that a series model would go into production in the summer of 2008. This coupé would complete the Phantom family, standing alongside the Phantom, Phantom Extended Wheelbase and Phantom Drophead Coupé.

Revealed at the Salon International de l'Automobile, Geneva in March 2008, the Phantom Coupé is the third new model from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars since BMW Group became custodian of the marque in 1998.

The Coupé is the most driver-orientated model in the Phantom line. A number of subtle but significant modifications have been made that change its character. It is noticeably more dynamic, whilst still offering incredible levels of comfort a balance not easily achieved.

The Coupé marries cutting-edge technology with a beautifully proportioned, muscular body that exudes power and style. Utterly contemporary in appearance, it nonetheless incorporates timeless Rolls-Royce design cues such as the long bonnet, large-diameter wheels, short front and long rear overhangs and the classic dynamic, rising profile.
  • Rinspeed sQuba Concept Rinspeed sQuba Concept

Thirty years after the movie thriller ‘The Spy Who Loved Me' hit the silver screen 'sQuba' is the first car that can actually ‘fly' under water.

'Dive it again, James!' If the situation gets too hot for the secret agent he'll go underground - or under water. So demonstrated impressively by Roger Moore in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me' in 1977 when he dove below the waves in a sleek vehicle that moments before seemed to be an ordinary car. The only problem: The scene never really took place; it was an animation.

With the 'sQuba,' the world's first real submersible car, the movie fake now becomes reality for visitors of the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th - 16th, 2008). Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht (52) is known for his extraordinary automotive creations. The acknowledged James Bond enthusiast and Swiss automobile visionary kept revisiting this scene in his mind over and over: 'For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly under water. Now we have made this dream come true.'

And it is this submerged stabile flight at a depth of 10 meters that sets the 'sQuba' apart from military vehicles. While the latter can go under water, they are limited to driving slowly over the submerged ground. Rinderknecht: 'It is undoubtedly not an easy task to make a car watertight and pressure resistant enough to be maneuverable under water. The real challenge however was to create a submersible car that moves like a fish in water.'
  • Morgan LifeCar Concept Morgan LifeCar Concept

LIFECar will be based on the Morgan Aero Eight, and is powered by a QinetiQ-made fuel cell, which converts hydrogen – and oxygen taken from the air around it – into electrical energy. It will be clean, quiet and economic, and the only waste product from the car will be water. The car's power system will be incredibly efficient, producing significant improvements over current fuel cell prototype vehicles, with the fuel cell powering four separate electric motors, one at each drive wheel.

The key to delivering this step change in energy efficiency lies in a combination of factors, including weight reduction and a different design approach. This approach exploits opportunities across the vehicle to reduce energy losses and requirements.

Regenerative braking and surplus energy will be used to charge ultra-capacitors, which will release their energy when the car is accelerating. This architecture will allow the car to have a much smaller fuel cell than is conventionally regarded as necessary: it will only be as large as is required to provide cruising speed, approximately 24 kW, as opposed to around 85kW proposed by most competitor systems.
  • Chevrolet Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06

Chevrolet announced the 2008 Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06, a limited-production model that pays homage to the big-block Stingray models of the mid-1960s. The 427 designation refers to the cubic-inch displacement for the highest-performance engines offered between 1966 and '69 – and is also the cubic-inch equivalent of the Z06's 7.0L LS7 small-block V-8.

The 427 Limited Edition Z06 features a Crystal Red Tintcoat exterior, the first Z06 ever offered with a red metallic tintcoat paint. It also features graphics on the hood and fascia that evoke the style of the famed 'stinger' hood design and graphics that were offered with 1967 models equipped with the 427 engine. Also unique to this model are '427' hood badges. Each example is numbered and signed by Wil Cooksey, the Corvette assembly plant manager who is retiring after 15 years on the job, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

'The heritage of the 427 designation with the Corvette is legendary,' said Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager. 'Recognizing the tie-in of the original 427 engine and the LS7's 427-inch displacement has been on the Corvette team's mind since the Z06 was introduced, and we're thrilled to express it in this special model.'

Available under order code Z44, this special Z06 enters production this spring. Only 427 will be offered in the United States and Canada, with 78 more exported outside North America. That's a total of 505 production vehicles – the same number of horsepower produced by the LS7 engine.
  • Porsche 997 GT3 RSR Evo Porsche 997 GT3 RSR Evo

The Porsche GT3 RSR launches into the new model year with extensive modifications. The most powerful race car based on the Porsche 911, which last year scored wins at the 24 hour races of Le Mans and Spa as well as overall victory at the Nuerburgring 24 hours, competes in the GT2 class at international long distance races. The most distinguishing feature of the new GT3 RSR is the front end which received major improvements to the aerodynamics. The majority of innovations however are hidden under the weight-optimised body.

Aside from the easily recognisable additional spoilers on the front apron, so-called flicks, an optimised air ducting with newly-designed side air outlets generates more downforce and reduces drag. The rear end including the rear wing was taken over from the predecessor. Extensive changes to the suspension cinematics increase mechanical grip considerably. The range of possible suspension set-ups was broadened.

The 3.8-litre boxer engine of the GT3 RSR remains unchanged apart from slight improvements to details. It delivers 465 hp (342 kW) at 8,000 revs per minute and delivers a maximum torque of 430 Nm at 7,250 revs. The rev limiter of the efficient six-cylinder kicks in at 9,400 rpm.
  • Hyundai HED-5 Concept Hyundai HED-5 Concept

stunning new concept car, low-emission versions of Hyundai production models and a facelifted version of the Matrix will make the Hyundai stand a 'must-see' at the Geneva motor show next month.

Star attraction will be the HED-5, a six seat MPV that promises a new level of versatility combined with exceptional fuel economy. The revolutionary materials and construction techniques have been developed in co-operation with innovation partners such as Recaro, Bayer and LG.

As a company that has always prided itself on environmental friendliness and innovation, the challenge of reducing emissions from its range was irresistible to Hyundai.

A new package of innovations to be revealed at the show demonstrates how existing technology can make a significant (up to 29 percent) reduction in CO2 emissions, without punitive penalties in price, performance or driving enjoyment. This 'near production' package represents a realistic and achievable advance in reduced emissions and fuel consumption.
  • Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG

Mercedes-Benz released the first official photographs today of its facelifted 2009-model SL roadster, the iconic sports car that's a direct descendant of the legendary 300SL 'Gullwing' of the 1950s. Planned for a public debut in March at the International Motor Show in Geneva, the new SL features dramatic new styling with fenders that incorporate bold new headlamps and modified gill-type air outlets behind the front wheels. A redesigned hood with twin power domes and a wider, single-bar grille emphasizes the width of the body and makes a symbolic visual connection to the famous 1954 300SL. Standard AMG body styling further enhances the aggressive new appearance. The 2009 model year SL line-up is scheduled to make its showroom debut this Spring.

Larger side mirrors reveal built-in arrow-shaped turn signals. At the rear, the SL looks sportier than ever, with a new air diffuser in the bumper that adds a motorsports touch, as well as trapezoidal exhaust tips that emphasize its width and suggest all the power that's on tap.

Center-stage in the cockpit are a new-design three-spoke steering wheel and a restyled instrument cluster with eye-catching red tachometer and speedometer needles that swing to the max position and back to zero whenever the ignition is turned on.
  • The Ferrari F2008 The Ferrari F2008

They must have realized low-key works too! As Kimi Raikkonen walked around the garage at the Ferrari facility at Fiorano, the Finnish driver flashed some smiles; the only real evidence of this stoic driver being the world champion. In a ceremony fit for their subdued world champion, Ferrari quietly (at least in the Formula One world) unveiled its challenger for the 2008 season. The F2008 is the team's hope to solidify the return of the Ferrari dynasty.

Much like their world champion driver, Ferrari's car unveilings (since Schumacher left) have been all business-like, with really no flash at all. In fact, the unveiling of the F2008 seemed more like a mid-season design update than an unveiling of a brand new design. The F2008 was revealed to the world at Ferrari's facility just like the F2007 was last year. The extent of the light show was a mere turning on of the overhead lights within the facility.

Formula One is an ever-changing world, even for the driver's and constructors champions. Every team, every year tweaks designs, abandons them all-together or applies designs of other teams (not necessarily a jab at McLaren-Mercedes after last season's problems) in an effort to continue to maintain that performance edge. And yet surprisingly, the F2008 boasts of some features that truly depart from the designs seen throughout most of this decade. Within the team there is a shift in personnel and apparently a shift in design concept.

  • Cavallino Classic XVII Cavallino Classic XVII

The Cavallino Classic is a Ferrari-only event held on the lawn at the Breakers Hotel in West Palm Beach, Florida. Due to landscape that has flourished in the past few years, the event is segregated into two distinct sections, an 'upper' concours and a 'lower' concours. The upper concours, closer to the Breakers Hotel, houses around 30 of the earlier works of the Ferrari marquee and the stars of the show. Around one-third had been raced at Moroso Raceway during the Historic Races the days prior to the concours, and with only a day's turn-around, were cleaned-up to concours quality. The Lower Concours began with the 275 GTBs and 330s, followed by the 365 Daytona's, and the Dino Ferraris. As the lawn opened up the farther one traversed, the lineage of the Prancing Horse continued into the modern era, including the 308, 348, 355, 512, Testarossa and ending with such models as the 360 and 430.

This year, the Cavallino Classic 17 celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 250 GT California and the 250 GT Tour de France (TdF) models. On the 'Lower Concours' area the 'Daytona', officially called the 365 GTB, was celebrated.

The Cavallino Classic is never a gamble for spectator or entrant; it is a quality event that features the 'Crem de la Crème.' This event, coupled with the Shell Historic Races at Moroso Raceway and the newly created Classic Sports Sunday, makes the Palm Beach area a Mecca for the automotive and Ferrari enthusiast in January. It is an opportunity to revel in the beauty and admire the significance of the Ferrari marquee.
  • Ferrari 412 S Ferrari 412 S

This Ferrari 412 S was assembled at the request of John von Neumann. It carries chassis number 0744 and was originally a 312 Sport. His goal was to have a vehicle that could compete on the American racing circuit and defeat Lance Reventlow's Scarabs. At a reported $20,000, von Neumann was presented with a 4-liter, 12-cylinder ex-Spa tipo 524 racer that had over 440 horsepower.

At its inaugural debut, von Neumann placed the Ferrari 412 S in the capable hands of the legendary driver, Phil Hill. After mechanical difficulties and handling problems, specifically faulty shock absorbers, the car suffered a DNF. Phil Hill was again behind the wheel for the cars second racing appearance, the well advertised Rigerside GP. The car quickly proved its potential and proved to be a worthy contender for the American racing league. Unfortunately, a vapor lock cancelled Hills attempts at a first place finish. Instead, it was retired prematurely from the race.

It made a second appearance at the Riverside Times GP, this time piloted by Richie Ginther. At the drop of the checkered flag, it was #0744 in first place. At the conclusion of the race, the car returned back to the factory where it was fitted with disc brakes, making it one of the first Ferrari's to have this feature.

Ferrari 412 S with chassis number 0744 has since won its class at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
  • BMW E92 M3 GTR BMW E92 M3 GTR

BMW presented the racing version of the new BMW M3 at the Chicago Auto Show. Powered by a 485 bhp eight cylinder engine, this impressive race car has been designed to compete in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) beginning in 2009. The car is based on the fourth generation of the BMW M3, the high-performance sports car produced by BMW M GmbH.

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen says: 'With the sporting genes of the production BMW M3 being clearly evident, developing a racing version of the car was the next logical step. The fact that the road-going vehicle is fitted with a V8 engine as standard provided us with an ideal base. However, the BMW M3 is more than a race car, it has achieved legendary status amongst race fans across the globe. I am convinced that this unique story of the BMW M3 racing cars will now be expanded upon by the addition of further chapters.'

BMW's 2009 entry into the American Le Mans Series will be driven by a partnership between BMW of North America, LLC and Rahal Letterman Racing, co-owned by US motorsport legend Bobby Rahal

  • Chicago Auto Show Chicago Auto Show

The media days for the Chicago Auto Show are underway. As is often the case, many of the details about the debuts have already circulated around the inter-web and various other publications. Still, there is much left to be revealed during these two media preview days.

The Chicago Auto Show has a long heritage; it is the first auto show to reach 100 years. It has facilities that absolutely trumps the location of the other major auto-shows, such as New York, LA, and Detroit. Even with these massive facilities, there are generally fewer debuts at Chicago than in other locations; many times, the debuts are production-ready vehicles or new trim levels on existing models, rather than bold and exciting concepts and supercars found at the other shows. Nevertheless, it is a very important show for the auto industry and was chosen by Dodge for their much anticipated reveal of the Challenger SRT8.

We have begun a list of expected debut's at this years show. It is an evolving list that will continue to grow as the show percolates.

  • Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S Racer Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S Racer

Porsche AG, Stuttgart, adds another member of the 911 family to its range of products. The new GT3 Cup S, based on the road-going GT3 RS sportscar, is created exclusively for racing purposes. The Weissach-developed and built vehicle will race in international champion-ships which run in accordance with FIA GT3 regulations.

To a large extent, the 3.6-litre boxer engine is identical to the power unit used in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the international Carrera Cup championships. Power output has increased by 20 horsepower to now 440 hp (324 kW) at 8,000 rpm. Maximum torque is up by ten Nm to 430 at 7,250 revs per minute. The power increase results from optimised engine electronics and a modified exhaust system.

In contrast to the GT3 Cup, the body of the Cup S is not based on the road-going GT3 but on the GT3 RS. In the wider wheel arches, considerably larger wheels can now be mounted. At the front, the rims measure 10.5 inches in width with 12 inch wheels fitted at the rear. The front section and flares are significantly different to the GT3 Cup components. An adjustable front-splitter generates more downforce at the front axle. The rear-wing is wider and positioned higher than the Cup version and provides more downforce at the rear axle.

The Swabian, German tuners PPI Automotive Design GmbH, customize Audi's flagship sportscar by stoking up the fire with even more coal going that extra mile by providing an enhanced look combined with improved driving dynamics. A wind tunnel-tested aerodynamic kit of carbon fibre in combination with a performance enhancement and special lightweight magnesium wheels in 19-inch dimensions provides measurably improved appearance whether on the race track or the elegant promenade of the elite jet set.

The stage 1 kit produces an increase power output of the original motor from 309kw/420hp to 348kw/460hp and increases torque from 430Nm/317lb-ft to 465Nm/343lbs-ft. A performance kit with durable components designed by PPI consists of corrosion resistant stainless steel sport rear muffler with throttle system. Just beginning at low-end torque, the resulting sound signals pure power, but with high speeds one experiences an even more imposing sound. Matched to this is a complete optimised engine management plus sport air filter providing the unit with extra breathing abilities. Results are a top speed of 192 mph (311 km/h) and sprinting from 0-60 mph in only 4,0 seconds; a six-tenths decrease versus standard production.
