  • 1914 Renault EF 1914 Renault EF

In 1914, when this magnificent motorcar was produced, the Renault Freres produced 10,000 chassis divided among two two-cylinder models, five four-cylinder models and two big six-cylinder motorcars. This model EF features a four-cylinder, 2.6-liter power plant that develops 12 horsepower.

Renault did not build bodies. That was left to coachbuilders, both European and American, such as Locke & Company, which designed and built this unique Victoria body style for Miss Julia Berwind of the Berwind Coal Company family. During her ownership the Renault was kept at The Elms, a Newport, Rhode Island mansion.

The car was stored in 1922. Eventually, it was given to a relative and passed along to two more owners before it was restored to its original appearance.

The Honda Skydeck Concept - a concept that will be unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show - is an innovative 6-seater hybrid MPV. It features sliding and scissoring doors that reveal a passenger cabin that is minimalist and futuristic. To give the Honda Skydeck Concept the practicality of a conventional MPV, many of the hybrid system components - including the high power battery - are housed in the car's centre tunnel (rather than behind the rear seats or under the floor, as with previous production hybrids). This allows for greater cabin space, and the room for three rows of two seats. It also gives a lower centre of gravity.

  • WORLD PREMIERE: MITSUBISHI CONCEPT PX-MiEV WORLD PREMIERE: MITSUBISHI CONCEPT PX-MiEV

Powered by the new Mitsubishi Plug-in Hybrid System, which significantly extends the frequency a hybrid vehicle is driven in EV mode, the Mitsubishi Concept-PX* MiEV† returns fuel economy in excess of 50 km/litre. The headlamps and rear combination lamps use LED emitters that give the car an innovative and modern appearance as well as delivering better environmental performance with their reduced power consumption. The body uses a newly-developed metal colour that gives the car a metal shell-like appearance. Combining elements of both spoke and dish styling, the road wheel design highlights an unprecedented new look to the body as well improving brake cooling and aerodynamic performance.

  • 1964 Pre-Production Mustang Convertible 1964 Pre-Production Mustang Convertible

This 1964 Mustang convertible is fully-documented as the first pre-production Mustang convertible. It was owned by a Ford executive until 1967 when acquired by a family that owned it for 40 years. It recently received a concours level restoration.

After the record-breaking success of the Falcon, Ford decided to offer the public a small sporty car in the lower price range - a decision that promptly gained success with the motoring public and which continues to this day.

During its debut in the mid-1964, the Mustang was offered in a 108-inch wheelbase hardtop coupe or convertible that weighed nearly 2,500 pounds and cost under $2,700 for the convertible and under $2,400 for the hardtop. Since it was introduced mid-year, the Mustang faced virtually no competition. By the end of 1964, 263,434 Mustangs had been sold - and that level of popularity has not diminished.
  • 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II

The Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II was a special model produced to satisfy the booming performance car market of the 1960's. It was more aerodynamic than the fastback coupe and was designed to specifically meet NASCAR's certification requirement and compete against Ford's Torino Talladega.

The Cyclone Spoiler II design featured a stretched, tapered nose and flush-mounted grille. It also had re-rolled rocker panels that allowed the car to be lowered without violating NASCAR's ride-height requirements. Two trim packages were available: the Dan Gurney Special in Wimbledon White and Presidential Blue and the Cale Yarborough Specials (as seen on this car) in Candy Apple Red over Wimbledon White. Both were named after Mercury's best NASCAR drivers of the time.

While the exact number of Cyclone Spoiler II's built is not known, it is beloved to be between 300 and 500. Also built was a standard-nosed model, known as Cyclone Spoiler, which was offered with the same trim packages. Only the extended nosed models were Cyclone Spoiler II's. These were powered by the 290 horsepower, 351 cubic-inch Windsor engine.

For Abarth, this marks a return to promotional trophy events, a niche it has made its own for more than thirty years. • Marmon Sixteen Victoria Coupe Marmon Sixteen Victoria Coupe

Only two production sixteen cylinder automobiles were manufactured in the United States - the Cadillac Sixteen and the Marmon Sixteen. The Marmon was introduced in November 1930, 11 months after the Cadillac Sixteen's appearance and deliveries did not begin until April 1931.

The Marmon Sixteen was simply spectacular, but for the struggling Marmon Company it was a case of 'too much, too late.' The market was disappearing for a $5,000, 200 horsepower luxury automobile.

Although the Marmon Company also produced a less expensive eight-cylinder motorcar, it focused all its efforts on the Sixteen for 1933. By May of that year the company was in receivership. The automobile company that had won the first Indianapolis 500 race in 1909 had become part of history.

This special cabriolet motorcar was a one-off custom built by the German coachbuilder Sindelfingen for William A.M. Burden, a great, great grandson of legendary American industrialist Cornelius Vanderbilt, who specified the sleek, gracefully sloped grille that normally would have carried the famous Mercedes-Benz star.

The letter 'K' in the model designation stood for 'Kompressor,' German for supercharger. The inline, eight-cylinder motor displaced 5.4-liters and developed 180 horsepower.

  • The 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix The 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix

It seemed as if Pontiac could do no wrong in the high-flying Sixties. Introduced in 1962, the full-size Grand Prix coupe was a great-looking example of Wide-Track swagger, power and elegance. The clean-lined 1963 set an industry design trend and the 1964 revisions only enhanced the clean, custom look that was uniquely Pontiac.

This 1964 Grand Prix, in signature Nocturne Blue, features Pontiac's wonderfully styled eight-lug aluminum wheel-and-drum assemblies, a matching all-vinyl interior with bucket seats and a center console housing a manifold vacuum gauge. Unique GP touches include a split grille with designed-in parking lamps, vertical backup lamps and 'hidden' horizontal tail-lamps.
  • The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T

A wide array of models were offered as part of the 1969 Dodge Charger line-up, including the base model, a more luxurious Special Edition 'SE,' two racing editions - the 500 and the Daytona - and the hot-performing R/T. However, only one body style was offered - a two-door hardtop.

The 1969 Charger continued to use the body from the previous year, which had been beautifully restyled from a flashback style to a semi-fastback design. The design differences are easily distinguished by a new divided grille and taillight treatment that was used in 1969.

The high-performance R/T featured dual exhausts with chrome tips, Red Line tires, a special handling package and heavy duty, manually-adjusted brakes. This Charger is powered by a 375 horsepower, 440 cubic-inch V-8 engine and features a Hurst four-speed transmission. The factory price for a Dodge Charger R/T in 1969 was nearly $3,600.

  • The Maserati BiTurbo The Maserati BiTurbo

To most car enthusiasts, especially ones from America, the word 'Biturbo' refers only to a single model by the company Maserati. This is one of the greatest automotive fallacies. In reality, the Biturbo was much more than the entry-level Maser brought to the States for 1984. The Biturbo was an entire generation of Maserati, a whole chapter in the marque's tumultuous and often controversial history. While often derided as the cheap, boxy Maserati of the 1980's, the Biturbo was really a full range of exciting cars with explosive personalities. From coupes to sedans to convertibles, there was a Biturbo to satisfy anyone's tastes.

Maserati , now in the hands of Fiat, had changed owners several times already before falling under the guidance of Alejandro De Tomaso in 1975. De Tomaso, an entrepreneur and owner of the exotic Italian car company bearing his name, knew a great deal about the car business when he acquired Maserati from its previous owner, Citroen. De Tomaso saw the potential of a volume-production Maser, and by 1978 he had decided to take the company in a new direction with an all-new, twin-turbocharged model to be offered with a competitive price tag.

'I'm setting out to prove you can use an efficient high-performance car in daily driving without enormous fuel bills,' said Jeremy, who has entered the Ford-supplied RS in the Warwickshire-based marathon's class for cars with CO2 emissions of 160+g/km.

Before customer deliveries even started earlier this year, more than half of the UK's Ford Focus RS allocation had been sold. The £26,395 car continued the RS badge's acclaimed 40-year association with exciting and affordable performance cars.
  • 14th Annual Hagley Car Show 14th Annual Hagley Car Show

The Hagley Museum is a celebration of the old and the grand. Located on the site of the gunpowder works founded by E.I. du Pont in 1802, it consists of 235 acres worth of beautifully preserved lawns and stately buildings, including the mansion where du Pont lived. For fourteen years now, Hagley has been holding an annual car show on its Wilmington, Delaware grounds.

Winding through the long, picturesque drive through Hagley towards the show field, it becomes immediately apparent how difficult it would be to find a more suitable venue for an antique car exhibition. It takes only a touch of imagination to picture regal Pierce-Arrows and Packards traversing the very same path nearly a century ago.

To make the Elantra 'Blue,' engineers added a 'smart' alternator management system, lower friction engine components, revised transmission gear ratios, engine calibration changes and a shift indicator to last year's Elantra GLS manual. This new high mileage Elantra will be indentified with unique 'Blue' badging. From the Blue edition, the rest of the Elantra line receives its lower friction engine components, 'smart' alternator management system and an improved lock-up torque converter to maximize fuel economy at highway speeds.
  • Hamann California F149 Hamann California F149

Refining super sports cars is more than just business for the company HAMANN Motorsport. Their passion for detail, for something special and unique is the main incentive for extraordinary modifications. The latest stroke of genius once again confirms this. The HAMANN interpretation of the Ferrari California with its exclusive and extensive refining programme does not only make the hearts of real Ferrari fans beat faster.

Most of all, the car body kit proves that HAMANN does not only focus on changing the visual appearance. Apart from design elements such as a bonnet made of carbon fibre, specific modifications at the front, sides and back boost the aerodynamics. Thereby, the front spoiler reduces the lifting forces of the California which significantly improves the handling and agility. Moreover, the unobtrusive side skirt set calms the airflow between both axles. And moreover, a back spoiler increases the contact pressure. Here, the HAMANN engineers agreed on a small wing profile which considerably enhances the car body design. As the combination with the perfectly integrated and three-part rear diffuser renders enough grip for the road. Mainly on country roads with many curves, the HAMANN aerodynamics kit unravels its power and generates pure driving pleasure.

Delivered in April 1965, CSX3006 made its way to England early in life, purchased by the Chequered Flag racing team in 1966. • The Audi A5 Sportback – the best of three worlds The Audi A5 Sportback – the best of three worlds

Audi is presenting a new vehicle concept – the Audi A5 Sportback. The five-door model with the long, flowing rear end unites the best of various vehicle genres: the emotion and elegance of a coupe, the comfort of a sedan and the practicality of a station wagon. The Sportback joins the Coupé and Cabriolet as the third member of the A5 model family.

The A5 Sportback will be rolling into Audi dealerships in September featuring an emotion-packed design, high everyday practicality, a sporty character and engines that are as efficient as they are powerful. Sales have already begun, with prices starting at 33,650 euros. A further, specially-priced model to follow in 2010 will make the A5 Sportback the entry-level model in the A5 model series.

Audi, the inventor of the Avant, is setting new trends in design with the A5 Sportback. The five-door coupe is defined by elegant lines. • The Audi e-Tron Concept The Audi e-Tron Concept

Audi presents the highlight of the IAA 2009: the e-tron, a high-performance sports car with a purely electric drive system. Four motors – two each at the front and rear axles – drive the wheels, making the concept car a true quattro. Producing 230 kW (313 hp) and 4,500 Nm (3,319.03 lb-ft) of torque, the two-seater accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 – 62.14 mph) in 4.8 seconds, and from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 – 74.56 mph) in 4.1 seconds. The lithium-ion battery provides a truly useable energy content of 42.4 kilowatt hours to enable a range of approximately 248 kilometers.

The performance figures are by no means the only evidence of the consistent and holistic strategy. The design makes it clear that the e-tron belongs in the major leagues of sports cars, and the package takes into account the specific realities of an electric vehicle. The battery is directly behind the passenger cabin for an optimal center of gravity and axle load distribution.
  • Volkswagen presents the most fuel-efficient automobile in the world Volkswagen presents the most fuel-efficient automobile in the world

Technological breakthrough for the 1-litre fuel consumption car: International Motor Show (IAA), Volkswagen is presenting the concept of the future L1 in a world premiere that points the way toward the production version. The full hybrid vehicle weighs just 380 kilograms thanks to its carbon-fibre reinforced body (CFRB). With a combined fuel consumption figure of 1.38 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres, this extremely aerodynamic (Cd 0.195!) Volkswagen suitable for everyday use is intended to become the most fuel-efficient automobile in the world. CO2 emissions of the 160 km/h L1 are similarly low at 36 g/km.

Retrospective: Seven years ago, Dr. Ferdinand Piëch, at that time Chairman of the Board of Management and today Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Volkswagen Group, drove a prototype from Wolfsburg to Hamburg that was unlike any other car before it: the Volkswagen 1-Litre car – the world's first car with fuel consumption of one litre fuel per 100 kilometres. The man and machine wrote automotive history. In April 2002, however, it was also clear that the time for a production version of the 1-Litre car lay far in the future. Production of the body itself – from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) – was not realistic due to cost considerations. Yet, in 2002 Dr. Ferdinand Piëch already prophesised that the time would soon come for the 1-Litre car and CFRP as a material for industrial applications. By 2009 the time had come: Volkswagen is making a clear statement at the IAA in Frankfurt (September 17 to 27) with the second generation of this ingenious car: The L1 represents a step forward into the future with completely new technology and a new design; revolutionary yet close to production readiness.

As the climax of its centenary celebration ceremonies, Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. presented customers and opinion-makers with the Bugatti 16 C Galibier concept, intended to be the most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world last weekend in Molsheim. At the historic site where Ettore Bugatti once laid the cornerstone of his company, Bugatti's current president, Dr. Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen emphasised that the Galibier is one of several concept studies with which the company is considering for the future of the Bugatti marque.

Art - Form - Technique: those are the brand values to which Ettore Bugatti and his son Jean oriented themselves in order to develop even more powerful engines and even more noble body designs for each new model, which were without equal in quality, handling, speed and elegance. In the process, they experimented again and again without compromise with new materials; thus was Bugatti one of the first manufacturers to use aluminium parts for bodies, engine blocks and wheels.

Volkswagen is presenting a pioneering fleet of new sustainable automobiles at the 63rd International Motor Show (IAA) – an update on the future. The range of IAA premieres extends from the world's most fuel-efficient production passenger car (BlueMotion) to hybrid technology and an electric car developed from the ground up – the E-Up! that is being presented in a world premiere in Frankfurt.

The 135 km/h fast 3+1 seater is driven by an electric motor with a peak power output of 60 kW (continuous power: 40 kW). The motor of the front-wheel drive car, which is mounted in front, develops a maximum torque of 210 Newton-meters right from rest. The driver activates forward or reverse gear via a rotary knob in the centre console. The fact that the E-Up! will also quite clearly offer driving enjoyment is demonstrated by a look at the car's classic 0 to 100-km/h sprint time: 11.3 seconds. The E-Up! develops even greater responsiveness in the intermediate sprint from 0 to 50 km/h in city driving: 3.5 seconds. This dynamic performance is based first on the electric motor's excellent torque characteristic and second on the low kerb weight of the E-Up!, which is just 1,085 kilograms.
