The Minardi PS04B was raced during the 2004 season. It was based on its predecessor, the PS03 and as such, was similar in many ways. This was consistent with many of the other teams throughout F1 racing; little was changed. Racing regulations often dictate changes and this was true for 2004; the FIA required modifications to the dimensions of the engine cover and rear wing end plates. Aerodynamics were changed, bodywork was new, and new front wing. The vehicles electronic system and control software for the engine, gearbox and clutch was upgraded.
The engine is a ten-cylinder Cosworth C3L unit that is mated to a Minardi six-speed sequential gearbox. Disc brakes and double-wishbone suspension can be found on all four corners.
The car made its debut at the Misano's Autodromo Santamonica where it was driven by Zsolt Baumgartner and Gianmaria Bruni.
The Minardi team was formed in 1979 by Giancarlo Minardi and competed in the Formula One World Championship from 1985 through 2005. During that time it scored 38 championship points.
At the close of the 2004 season, the team was in 10th place in the Constructors Championship.

| 1984 Brazilian Grand Prix: An Overshadowed Overachievement | |
![]() | In 1983, a little-known Belgian driver by the name of Thierry Boutsen would buy his way into a drive with the Arrows Racing Team in time to take part in the Belgian Grand Prix. Though he would retire early in the race, he would follow the performance up with two-straight near misses of the points, beating his teammate in the process. He had been close with a car that was already overreaching. One year later, competing with an older and underdeveloped car, championship points couldn't have seemed...[Read more...] |
| 1989 Brazilian Grand Prix: Dangerous Like a Wounded Animal | |
![]() | Sunday March 26th, 1989 would break with sunny skies. As the day grew later and later the already warm weather only grew hotter and hotter. It was clear the 18th Grande Premio do Brasil would be absolutely torrid as far as the weather was concerned. But in the Benetton pits, one man would not be thinking about the weather as much as the dream that was about to come to fruition with the start of the race at two in the afternoon. Ever since he began to race karts at the age of ten, Johnny Herb...[Read more...] |
| A Monaco story: When Nico met Mika | |
![]() | It's a scene that happens hundreds of thousands of times a day around the world: two people meet in a lift, greet each other and begin to chat about work and life. The twist in this particular story, though, is that the elevator is in Monte-Carlo; the two men are resident in the same apartment building, separated by little more than a few floors; and both have written their own chapters in the very exclusive grand prix racing history of Mercedes-Benz. Mika Hakkinen was the first Mercedes-Ben...[Read more...] |

![]() | Kimi Raikkonen bagged his second podium on the trot in Barcelona, charging hard to finish third behind first time grand prix winner Pastor Maldonado and, by just half a second, Fernando Alonso. The Finn was disappointed not to finish on the top step, though, claiming that the Lotus E20 had the potential to have won every race this year so far. Nevertheless, he is now fourth in the Drivers' Championship, just 12 points behind leaders Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Starting on the sec...[Read more...] |
