2001 Minardi PS01 news, pictures, and information

The Minardi PS01 was raced during the 2001 Formula One season. Tarso Marques, who had been out of F1 racing since 1997, was given the duties of driving for the team. Marques was joined by Flavio Briatore's from the Formula 3000 series.

The name 'PS01' was bestowed upon the vehicle due to it being the teams first car while under the ownership of Paul Stoddart. The team had been saved by Stoddart just two months before the season's opener. As a result, the car was rushed through design, development, and testing in order to be ready for the first race. The design was by Gustav Brunner and the engine was a 'European' V10 unit matted to a Minardi six-speed semi-automatic sequential gearbox.

With a relatively new team and a unproven car, the prospects were not good. Surprisingly, the team did rather well, with Marques failing to qualify only once. The team failed to score any points. The team's spirits were devastated when Brunner left to drive for the Toyota F1 season part way through the season.
