This Bulldog 50 model ran in the first Indy 500 race in 1911. Driven by Harry Endicott, it started in 3rd place and was still running at the end of the race, finishing in 16th place out of 40 entrants. Only the top 12 finishers were paid, so this car fell short of any money from the race.
Unfortunately, the company fell into receivership in the fall of 1913. In February 1914, Frank C. Ball (one of the original Inter-State investors) bought the factory. In May of 1918, automobile production was suspended in favor of war work. In 1919, they attempted to resume building automobiles but soon sold out to General Motors for them to produce their new Sheridan.
Few examples of the Inter-States survive today, and this is the most famous.
