GMC 2002 LINEUP HIGHLIGHTED BY LUXURY VAN, EMISSIONS IMPROVEMENTS
GMC's 2002 full-size Savana van provides incomparable people- and cargo-transporting capability. Along wîth its exceptionally spacious interior, Savana features the §egmènt's lowest step-in height, widest rear door openings and most powerful gasoline V8. It also has the only boxed frame in its class, fully formed for strength and rigidity.A 1500 Series Savana SLT, introduced in spring, is GMC's most luxurious version ever. Interior features range from a first-class entertainment system to luxurious seating for seven people. Combined wîth its smooth ride, the SLT creates living room-style comfort. A body colored grille, brushed chrome aluminum wheels and lower bodyside moldings highlight its upscale exterior.
Savana is also available in SL and SLE cargo and passenger versions, as a conversion van and as a commercial or RV cutaway.
Powertrain enhancements
Savana's most powerful V8s are now available to California customers for heavy-duty work and recreational applications. Calibration revisions and new exhaust systems enable over 8500-pound gross vehicle weight passenger and cargo vans, equipped wîth the Vortec 8100 or 6.5-liter turbo-diesel V8s, to meet California low emissions vehicle (LEV) requirements. Heavy-duty RV and commercial cutaways wîth the Vortec 5700 V8 meet similar LEV requirements.
Gasoline V8s also feature a more efficient starter that draws less current and a more durable §teering gear housing.
This year, air conditioning is also standard on all passenger and cargo models for greater comfort and value. In addition, inside rearview mirrors wîth temperature and compass display become standard on SLT models and those wîth the Úpfitter Conversion package (YF7) and available on other passenger vans. Passenger vans also offer optional power front seat height adjustment for extra comfort, and a rear heater has been made available on cargo models.
Higher degree of safety and security
Remote keyless entry is now available wîth power locks and windows on cargo and passenger vans.
Savana vans feature extensive safety and security equipment wîth standard items like four-wheel anti-lock brakes, halogen headlamps, intermittent windshield wipers, a PASSLock theft-deterrent system and an interlock to prevent moving the shifter into reverse or a forward gear, unless the brake pedal is depressed. Passenger vans also have rear-door child-safety locks.
Additional protection comes from dual front air bags, Daytime Running Lamps (DRL), and a center high-mounted stop lamp, which increases the van's visibility in traffic. An illuminated entry system enhances nighttime security. Light-tinted Solar-Ray windows or optional deep-tinted windows help improve passenger comfort under sun-loaded conditions and reduce the visibility of interior contents.
Audio refinements
Cargo vans have a standard AM/FM stereo wîth seek-scan and digital clock and now offer this audio system wîth an optional CD player, replacing the previous cassette. Conversion vans now have the AM/FM stereo wîth seek-scan, digital clock and CD player standard and offer that system wîth an additional cassette player and or a six-disc CD changer. SLT models have the premium 12-speaker Bose audio system and the AM/FM stereo wîth cassette and CD player as standard. A six-disc CD changer is also available on SLT models and those equipped wîth the Úpfitter Conversion package (YF7). Savana SL and SLE passenger vans have the AM/FM stereo wîth seek-scan and digital clock standard, and include a range of options, such as audio units wîth a cassette or CD player, dual play cassette and CD and the six-disc CD changer.
Savana features the latest in audio technology, including a Radio Data System that can provide song titles, radio call letters and automatic traffic bulletins, along wîth its six-disc CD changer. Sound systems provide optimum quality, as well as special features like Theftlock, which renders the unit inoperable if removed from the vehicle.
Trim changes
Savana buyers can choose between Dark Pewter and Neutral interior trim for all its cloth seats. Both colors are also available for the cargo van's vinyl seats; passenger model feature Dark Pewter vinyl seats.Source - GMC
