1911 Izzer Roadster

During the early years of automobile production, many individuals tried their hand at producing what they thought were proper automobiles. Some were successful, but many were not. The Izzer was one such attempt that never made it past three examples. It was the brainchild of Dr. H.H. Bissell of Watseka, Illinois, who commissioned Model Gas Engine Works in Peru, Indiana, to build a modern custom-built car that would revolutionize the automotive marketplace.

Model Gas Engine Works was owned by E.A. Myers. The first example pleased Myers so much, that two more examples were produced. Myers retained one of the cars and gave the second to the Model office manager, James Littlejohn.

The only Izzer to have survived the test of time was the car owned by Dr. Bissell. The car features a unique jump seat in the front, which was installed by Dr. Bissell for his young daughter.

Powering the Izzer Roadster was a four-cylinder engine that produced a modest 20 horsepower. The car has a wheelbase that measures 99 inches and was originally priced at $1,995. It has a rather compact design with a black convertible top that is secured in place with leather straps attached to the front. There are wood artillery-style wheels, and a narrow gas tank located in the back, behind the seats.
