1965 McKee MKIII news, pictures, and information

Coupe
Chassis Num: 001

This vehicle was Bob McKee's third complete race car which he completed in 1965 and built for USSRC competition for driver Bob Johnson. The car was built to house a small or big block Ford, or a Ford 4-cam Indy car engine. Since McKee's earlier cars had been powered by Chevrolet racing parts, some though the car was a similar 'Chevrolet effort' to the Chaparrals.

Ford racing legend Carroll Shelby commissioned the car's construction and given to Bob Johnson to pilot. After an accident at Laguna Seca while driven by Ed Leslie, it was sold to Dan Gerber with the nose from Dan Gurney's Lotus 19B. Gerber and Dave Friedland raced it with success at many races.

In the early 1970s, the car was modified with a closed cockpit body of a 1969 Lola T70 MK3B.

Years later, the car was given a restoration to the configuration that it last ran with the Lola body.
