1923 Auburn Model 6-51 news, pictures, and information
Auburn saw an increase in sales for the 1923 model year, however they posted a loss of more than $24,000. The model lineup for Auburn consisted of eight models and all were equipped with the Six Supreme engine. There was the 6-43 that was available as either a tourer or sedan, the Model 6-63 which had four bodystyles including a tourer, sport tourer, brougham, and sedan.
Auburn's advertising for 1923 stated 'Once An Owner - Always A Friend.'
This 7-Passenger Sedan was purchased by a farmer for his daughter. The daughter was dating an individual that the farmer did not approve; this vehicle was given to the daughter in exchange for her promise to end the romance. The daughter accepted the Auburn and the promise, but continued to see her forbidden boyfriend.
When the farmer learned of his daughter's deception, he took the car away from her and put it in his barn. The vehicle remained there for nearly five decades. As such, the car has traveled only a few thousand miles and still has its original interior.
The car currently resides in the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum.
