1946 Willys Overland Jeep CJ-2A news, pictures, and information

SUV

The first civilian version of the legendary G.I. workhorse of World War II was introduced in 1945. The Farm Jeep came complete with a power take-off unit for operating various farm implements. This marked the first time consumers could purchase an inexpensive four-wheel drive vehicle with several reined features including better shock absorbers and springs and a remote fuel tank filler.

This Model CJ-2A, with the 'CJ' representing Civilian Jeep, is very rare. It has a column shift three-speed transmissions and an L-head four-cylinder engine delivering 60 horsepower. It was built during the first month of production and one of a few to have the column shift. Customers preferred the floor-shift lever and soon, CJ models were given this feature.

This vehicle has front and rear hydraulic drum brakes and originally sold for $1,200.
