1966 Saab 96

For 1966, the Saab 96 was given a four-speed manual gearbox, and its engine was a two-stroke three-cylinder unit that displaced 51.3 cubic inches and offered nearly 50 horsepower. The two-door sedan had seating for five occupants and was priced at nearly $2,000. 'Special' models were available this year, along with front disc brakes, a tachometer, and a more powerful Monte Carlo engine.

The history of the Saab 96 dated back to 1960 and was produced until January 1980. It was a development of the old Saab 92 chassis and given improvements and modern design elements, along with safety improvements. It was also the first Saab model officially imported to the United Kingdom.

In 1965, the original 'bull-nose' front section of the 96 was lengthened in preparation for a new engine, and the radiator was moved ahead of the engine rather than above and behind. In 1968, the front and rear windows were again enlarged.
