2009 Brawn BGP 001 news, pictures, and information

The Brawn BGP 001 was the first - and only - F1 car used by the Brawn GP team. The car made its debut at Silverstone in the United Kingdom on March 6th of 2009. Team drivers included Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. It was designed throughout 2008 and 2009 by Honda and then Brawn after the change-over. The design was by Loic Bigois, in similar guise to many other modern F1 cars. It had a molded carbon fiber and honeycomb composite monocoque and a suspension setup comprised of wishbones and pushrod activated torsion springs and rockers.

The car was involved in the diffuser appeal which was rejected by the FIA deeming the car's diffuser legal. Powering the car was a Mercedes-Benz 2.4-liter V8 engine mated to a 7-speed semi-automatic gearbox.

In late 2008, Honda withdrew from Formula 1 and put their F1 operation up for sale. Though interest in the company was strong, a buyer could not be found. This led to a management buy-out by team principle Ross Brawn. The new team was given the name 'Brawn GP.'

As the season began, it was clear that Honda's withdrawal was a mistake. They had begun work on a new car during the 2008 season, and many predicted that the team would have a great 2009 season. The new car, painted in white with Day-Glo yellow stripe livery, proved to be a very fast and capable car. Button and Barrichello drove their cars to a one-two victory during the season opening Australian Grand Prix. Ferrari and McLaren, the prior year's top contenders, failed to score points. During the first seven races, Button scored six wins. By this point, most of the other teams had caught up, and were mounting a comeback. One of the biggest challengers came from the Red Bull RB5.

The Brawn team would hold onto their lead, mostly because each of the last few races had different winners. The Brawn GP F1 team would finish the season in first place in the World Constructors Championship after having earned 172 points. Jenson Button would win the Drivers' Championship.

2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT NAMED ONE OF WARD'S 10 BEST INTERIORS
The all-new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's upscale and highly-functional interior was acknowledged by the editors of WardsAuto, which named it to this year's Ward's 10 Best Interiors list. This recognition follows the 2012 Accent and 2012 Azera being named to the list last year. 'The latest version of the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is the essence of a midsize family CUV: well-crafted, tastefully appointed and affordable, despite a decidedly upscale look and feel,' said Tom Murphy, executive editor...[Read more...]

CHINESE GP – FLAT OUT FRIDAY
Felipe Massa setting the fastest time this afternoon around the 5.451 kilometres of the Shanghai International Circuit can be seen as the icing on the cake, at the end of the first day of practice for the Chinese Grand Prix. However, to continue the analogy, for Scuderia Ferrari it is the 'cake' itself that matters most and that too showed signs of being well prepared. The speed of development in Formula 1 moves on at such a fast pace that Fridays at a Grand Prix, particularly in the early p...[Read more...]
Chinese Grand Prix: Race
Nico Rosberg took a commanding victory at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai today. Starting from pole position, he took the chequered flag with a 20s margin over the second placed car, achieving his first win in Formula One. • Nico ran a two-stop option/prime/prime strategy to win by 20.626 seconds over Jenson Button's McLaren-Mercedes • Michael was forced to retire on lap 13 after his right front wheel was not properly attached at his first pit stop • This was Nico's 111th Formula On...[Read more...]
(Another) Shanghai Surprise
For the neutral this continues to be one strange start to the season. In Shanghai tomorrow, the Malaysian GP winner starts back in ninth place and the current world champion starts outside the top ten. Admittedly missing out by only about five hundredths... While it was here at the Shanghai International Circuit Red Bull Racing scored our first pole and have been Chinese P1 ever since, neither of our drivers will be on the front row tomorrow. Sebastian was 11th, while Mark will start in sixt...[Read more...]
