2012 Ford Fiesta

Ford Fiesta Adds Stylish Design Package Enhancements for 2012

•Ford Fiesta delivers up to an EPA-rated 40 mpg on the highway while offering technology, convenience features and connectivity to rival larger cars
•Fiesta is a fun-to-drive small car that is big on safety, wîth a class-exclusive driver's side knee airbag, smart restraints and high-strength steel in its rigid structure
•For 2012, Fiesta offers several new interior style and sport appearance packages to complement its distinctive kinetic design

The Ford Fiesta – all-new for 2011 – continues as the no-compromise small car choice wîth class-leading fuel economy, distinctive design and strong driving dynamics.

Fiesta offers class-exclusive technologies and first-to-market features such as hands-free SYNC® wîth voice-controlled Travel, Directions and Information and Pandora internet radio app. It also gets push-button start, six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission, and heated and leather-trimmed seats wîth fashionably contrasting piping.

'Fiesta has truly been a One Ford global success,' said Global B-Platform Chief Engineer Steve Pintar. 'The car has met strong consumer demand in mature and emerging markets alike. In North America, Fiesta changed the game by upping the ante for small cars by offering drivers an unprecedented array of comfort, convenience and connectivity technologies.'

New for 2012

Fiesta enters the 2012 model year in North America wîth two new interior style packages, an expanded sport appearance package and the across-the-board addition of an integrated blind spot sideview mirror and driver's seat armrest.

Built for the road yet inspired by the runway, Fiesta adds fashionable interior style packages that include two-tone leather-trimmed seats wîth harmonizing door trim inserts, color-coordinated §teering wheel and instrument panel trim, premium carpet floor mats wîth the Fiesta logo proudly embroidered in front and a leather-wrapped gearshift knob.

These packages are available on the range-topping SEL sedan and SES hatchback models in two distinctive color combinations. The Race Red package combines red and black leather-trimmed seating and door panels wîth red §teering wheel and instrument panel trim. The Oxford White package mixes the timelessly classic tuxedo black and while color scheme wîth a similar layout. The result is a strikingly distinctive passenger cabin design wîth the luxury of leather-trimmed surfaces and high-quality appointments.

An expanded premium sport appearance option for Fiesta SES hatchback models also makes its debut for 2012. Specifying this option adds 16-inch polished alloy wheels and black headlamp surrounds, auxiliary LED lamp surrounds, lower grille surround, sideview mirrors, window surrounds and rear spoiler. These blacked-out accents and special sporty wheels contrast wîth the vibrant colors in the Fiesta palette, enhancing the distinctive kinetic design.

In addition, the premium sport appearance package adds a 4.25 to 1 final drive ratio on five-speed models, for enhanced off-the-line acceleration.

All 2012 Fiesta models now add integrated spotter mirrors into the sideview mirrors. These spotter panes are incorporated into the outboard edges of the side door-mounted mirrors to enhance driver visibility in potential blind spots.

Fiesta will continue to offer interior and exterior design packages to keep consumer offerings fresh and brimming wîth vibrant personality.

Quality

Ford Fiesta quality is showcased by its distinctive kinetic design cues, an interior quietness that rivals larger cars and driver-engaging driving dynamics.

Fiesta is the initial North American representation of Ford's signature kinetic design language – a new look evocative of motion and the experience of dynamic driving – used across the global Ford portfolio of smaller vehicles.

Employing elongated dragon's eye headlamps sweeping gracefully into the muscular front fenders and hood, Fiesta is sporty yet accessible and inviting. The kinetic theme continues in the interior design, wîth the instrument panel and center stack combining to provide visual identity and distinction.

Fiesta interior quietness is taken to a new level for the small car §egmènt, aided in part by inclusion of a specially laminated windshield – a class-exclusive – that helps absorb and contain road and wind noise.

Powertrain noise is subdued and wind noise at speed is minimized by optimization of door seals. Special sound-absorbing padding behind the instrument panel and foam baffles inside the roof pillars help keep the Fiesta cabin quiet and serene. Even the headliner material has been specified for its sound-deadening qualities.

Fiesta offers superior driving dynamics wîth communicative electric power-assisted §teering (EPAS), optimized dampers, bushings and springs to provide a comfortable ride – all balanced wîth enthusiast-pleasing handling characteristics.

Green

Fiesta is powered by an advanced 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 120 horsepower and 112 lb.-ft. of torque. This smooth, responsive yet economical engine can be mated to an available PowerShift six-speed automatic transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com) For buyers preferring the control of a stick shift and clutch pedal, a five-speed manual transmission is fitted as standard.

Fiesta's four-cylinder engine is enhanced by the inclusion of twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT). This innovation helps the no-compromise Fiesta generate additional power, increases fuel economy, and reduces part-throttle emissions by optimization of valve opening and closing overlap. Managing these events wîth influence from throttle position and vehicle speed helps the engine to breathe and perform at peak efficiency at all times.

The Ford PowerShift transmission – yet another Fiesta class-exclusive – is a dual-clutch, direct-shift six-speed transmission that eliminates the need for a heavy torque convertor. This world-class gearbox provides quick shifts across six optimally spaced gears to deliver swift acceleration and low engine speeds while cruising. Reduced internal friction and weight help PowerShift to increase Fiesta fuel economy, too.

For buyers placing top priority on fuel economy, Fiesta SE sedans and hatchbacks can be specified wîth a Super Fuel Economy (SFE) package combining the PowerShift automatic transmission, a rear spoiler, side air deflectors, underbody shields, lower grille blockers, low-rolling-resistance tires and cruise control.

Safe

No other car in Fiesta's §egmènt offers as many airbag restraints or the Trinity front crash structure. That is why the no-compromise Fiesta was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Fiesta – a small car that is big on safety – features a class-leading array of seven airbags including a class-exclusive driver's knee airbag, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), four-wheel anti-lock brakes and Ford's acclaimed AdvanceTrac® wîth electronic stability control to help drivers keep the vehicle in control under a wide variety of dynamic driving conditions.

Like larger Ford vehicles, Fiesta employs the Trinity front crash structure to help prevent occupant injuries in a frontal crash incident. The first element is the boron steel front beam to absorb initial crash force. Boron steel shotgun rails then transmit impact forces to the Fiesta's rigid roof structure. The third element is the decoupling engine cradle, shearing to drop the powertrain to help prevent intrusion into the passenger cabin under impact.

FORD FIESTA RALLYCROSS CARS TO MAKE U.S. DEBUT AT PIKE'S PEAK INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB

•Fiesta to make its Ú.S. motorsport debut by the Olsbergs Motor Sport Evolution race team as it brings two Fiesta Rallycross cars for competition at Pike's Peak International Hill Climb in July.
•High-profile event for Fiesta helps brand grow awareness among Ú.S. racing and performance enthusiasts.

DEARBORN, Mich., May 27 – The new Ford Fiesta may not be hitting the streets of America officially until next year, but high-performance motorsport examples of the car will make their Ú.S. racing debut this summer when the Olsberg Motor Sport Evolution team from Sweden, managed by Andreas Eriksson, brings two new Fiesta Rallycross cars to compete in the annual Pike's Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado on July 19.

'The new Fiesta is an engaging, fun to drive car that is off to a very successful start in Europe and Asia,' said Jim Farley, Group Vice President, Ford Global Marketing and Communications. 'Thanks to Andreas Eriksson, we're able to introduce the Fiesta to racing fans in the Ú.S. ahead of its launch in 2010.'

The Pike's Peak International Hill Climb dates back to 1916, and is the second oldest motor sports event in America, taking its name from the famous mountain peak that towers above Colorado Springs in the Rocky Mountains and is often referred to as 'The Race to the Clouds.'

Ford cars have been at Pike's Peak since the very first race in 1916, when four Ford-powered cars competed. In 1922, Ford scored its first victory when Noel Bullock took his 179ci, OHV, 50 hp Ford Special, nicknamed 'Tin Lizzy' by the other competitors, to a surprise victory in the time of 19:50.9.

The two Fiestas will be driven by Eriksson and rally legend Marcus Grönholm in the 'Únlimited Class' at Pike's Peak, in an attempt to be the first team to break the 10-minute mark over the 12.4-mile, 156-turn pavement and gravel course.

Andreas Eriksson, 35, is a four-time Swedish rally champion, wîth multiple Rallycross victories, and Marcus Grönholm, 41, is one of World Rallying's greatest drivers, wîth two world championships and 30 WRC victories on his resume.

'We're pleased to have a top independent team like Olsbergs MSE coming to the Ú.S. wîth their Fiesta Rallycross cars to take on the challenge of Pike's Peak,' said Brian Wolfe, director, Ford North America Motorsports. 'This will be a great chance for enthusiasts here to see in this unique setting what a lot of the rest of the world is already talking about – that the Fiesta is a great road car and a great race car.'

Ford Motor Company's director of Global Motorsport Business Development, Jost Capito, said: 'The Pike's Peak event is another step forward for the new Ford Fiesta as a core vehicle in Ford's future global motorsport aspirations. We're lòòking forward to seeing Andreas and Marcus in action on this unique event.'

After finishing second in the Swedish championship last year, Olsberg's MSE team debuted its new Fiesta Rallycross car for this season's Swedish and European Rallycross championships, and it scored its first victory in just its second European championship event in Portugal this past month.

The Olsbergs MSE Fiesta Rallycross car is based on both the Fiesta hatchback model road cars. The all-wheel-drive Fiestas are powered by a 2.0-liter Duratec Ford engine capable of more than 800 horsepower.

The Fiesta Rallycross car's suspension system is the result of collaboration between Olsbergs Motor Sport Evolution, Öhlins and Ford of Europe's Team RS engineers, who are responsible for Ford's FIA World Rally Championship program.

'We worked night and day all winter to get the Fiesta ready on time for the European championships, and it was great to see it score a hard-earned victory in Portugal at the start of May,' said Eriksson. 'We are excited to be bringing the car to Pike's Peak and to be able to see what it can do in such a unique competition. It's a legendary event, and we've already been there to take a look at the challenge we will face. I'm convinced we'll be a top contender to break the 10-minute mark and give the Fiesta a proper racing debut in the Ú.S.'

Ford Racing North America, although not directly involved in the project, will assist the team wîth logistical support while it is in America.

New Fiesta in Rallying
The Ford Fiesta will be Ford Motor Company's main competition vehicle for rallying in the coming years.

Ford has a long and distinguished history in the FIA WRC (World Rally Championship), the toughest competition in motorsport for production-based cars. The series covers 12 three-day rallies across three continents, wîth competitors driving flat out on roads ranging from smooth asphalt to rutted, boulder-strewn tracks in conditions ranging from -25°C to 40°C.

Ford has competed in the WRC since 1999 wîth the Focus RS World Rally Car and won back-to-back manufacturers' world titles in 2006 and 2007. The Focus has claimed 37 rally victories in that period, the latest coming just last weekend when BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally team claimed a one-two finish in Rally d'Italia Sardegna in Italy.

The current generation of World Rally Cars will be replaced by a 'Super 2000' formula by the start of the 2011 season. In April, M-Sport, the team that oversees Ford's efforts in the World Rally Championship, announced it was developing the Ford Fiesta Super 2000 rally car.

In addition, an all-new Ford Fiesta R2 rally car, based on the top-selling Ford Fiesta road car launched last year, was unveiled last week at the Rally d'Italia Sardegna. Designed to replace the successful Fiesta ST rally car, the new vehicle is targeted at competitors in the popular Fiesta SportTrophy series, as well as in regional rally championships.

The Fiesta SportTrophy, launched in 2006, is a one-make championship aimed at career-minded young drivers and pure enthusiasts alike. More than 10 countries host national championships, wîth a top level international series linked to the World Rally Championship calendar.

The all-new Fiesta R2 conforms to the latest FIA regulations and will satisfy strong customer demand for an exciting yet affordable point of entry into rallying.

The five-speed Fiesta R2 rally car is based on the Ford Fiesta Sport (Zetec S in the ÚK and Ireland) using the 1.6L Ti-Vct 120PS (1598cc) base engine as in regular production. It is built from a standard conversion kit developed by M-Sport.

Fiesta Movement in North America Although the Fiesta production vehicle isn't slated to go on sale in the Únited States until 2010, 100 of the stylish European cars are already in North America in the hands of 100 chosen Fiesta Movement 'agents' that are a diverse group of individuals reflective of the Internet's social media community.

The 100 young trendsetters are driving and living wîth their Fiestas for six months, traveling as 'agents' on special 'missions,' and are documenting their experiences through a variety of social media sites, including Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and YouTube.

The 'missions' are designed to be fun, take the 'agents' to new places and let them experience new things – all while driving the new European Ford Fiesta and providing feedback to Ford on the product.

Early feedback has been extremely positive, and now there will be a chance for motorsport fans to take early interest in the Fiesta at the famous Colorado event.

Developed by M-Sport, Ford's WRC associate since 1997, the kit will convert a production Fiesta to rally specification. 'We're really excited to be able to offer this to North American rally drivers.'
In addition to the full R2 kit, Ford Racing will also offer a Stage 1 kit based on the R2 package.

The Stage 1 kit will include parts designed for the rigors of rallying, including a roll cage, ball joints, engine performance upgrades, dampers and a limited-slip differential. The package will offer competitors a lower-cost entry point to take a Fiesta rallying.

New Fiesta Sport Trophy class

Enthusiasts who add the R2 package to their Fiesta will have the ability to compete in the Fiesta Sport Trophy Championship in RallyCar's Rally America National Championship 2WD class in 2011. The winner of the Fiesta Sport Trophy Championship will be awarded a ride in the R2 class in a Fiesta at Wales Rally GB. Additionally, the winner from the class will have the opportunity to compete in the Fiesta SportTrophy International Shootout in Great Britain for a chance to win a year's residential placement at M-Sport, working wîth the BP Ford World Rally team.

'Over the last two years, Ford Racing and the Fiesta have made a significant impact in the AWD Open class of RallyCar's Rally America, at X Games and in the debut of RallyCross,' said JB Niday, managing director of RallyCar. 'To see that emphasis expand into the 2WD class wîth an opportunity like the Fiesta Sport Trophy Championship is a tremendous indicator of the value placed on the Fiesta program and the commitment to growing Fiesta through rally by Ford.'

The rally kit also is the perfect way for enthusiasts to appreciate all that the Fiesta offers.

'Not only are we offering rally enthusiasts a way to experience the full capabilities of Fiesta, but we're also giving them an amazing opportunity to test their skills in Europe on their way to perhaps realizing a dream of competing in the WRC,' said Allison.
